Everyone on the St. Bonaventure campus have heard the horror stories of Devereaux Hall, but that’s what everyone thinks about the rumors they hear; they are just rumors. However, I can attest that they are not just rumors.

My friends and I live on the fourth floor of Devereaux, and decided that we would work with a Ouija board. This was not my first time using one, so I really did not expect anything to happen, but once the piece began moving, and my friends and I all swore that we were not moving it, things got a little spooky.

The first time we used it, we talked to a spirit that claimed to be a good ghost that wanted no harm done to us. The spirit also told us they were looking out for one of my friends Deanna, whom was also doing the game with us. Their story was quite sad truthfully. This spirit was a former student who lived in room 108 of Devereaux hall, and shared with us that he committed suicide while he was still enrolled in the university. We felt relieved that we found a good ghost, but also very sad that their life ended too soon.

We made sure to say goodbye, being that is the number one rule when doing Ouija boards, and decided to talk to some more spirits. Deanna and I were hesitant but our other friend, Sam convinced us and we began asking questions.

As we made a connection with another ghost, a strange feeling came over me. I knew I wanted to opt out, but being that we already made contact, it was too little too late. This spirit informed us that they did not attend Bonas, and as we got some more information out of them, things got very scary. This spirit told us that they were not good spirit; they wanted to hurt us.

After hearing that statement, Deanna and I started freaking out and asked if we could say goodbye. After we said our goodbyes, Deanna and I were done and wanted it gone. We were searching for anything we could dig into the ground with but had no luck. As we continued our search to remove the Ouija board, Sam and Deanna ended up doing it one more time.

The ghost they communicated with stated that it wanted to hurt someone on our floor. They asked countless questions regarding the person it wanted to harm. They reached an answer when they asked if it wanted to hurt anyone out in the hallway, being that there was a bunch of people outside waiting to hear about their last experience. When they said “yes,” Sam asked if the ghost wanted to hurt our friend Alé, due to the fact that she was the first-person Sam saw. The ghost responded with a firm yes, and from that, Deanna and Sam said their last goodbye.

Deanna and I, still in a frenzy trying to find people to venture out with us to rid the Ouija board, finally found some guys to come with us. Our friends Mike, Tristan, Nick, Dave and North all came out to the Allegany River trail to dispose of the board. Unfortunately, Deanna gave Tristan the wrong information on how to properly, and permanently get rid of the game. He broke it into three pieces and tossed it. Shortly after, we all get a text from our friend Rylee that stated: “You should never break a Ouija board into pieces. It can let out any spirits you may have come into contact with.”

After seeing this, we all hustled back to Dev and went to bed. Later that night, strange things began happening in Alé’s room. It was three-o’clock in the morning when her fully shut door, swung open and came to an abrupt stop. The following night, her mirror fell off the wall and shattered, but her command hook holding the mirror up, stayed firmly on the wall. The next day, she had just hung up a light picture frame using gorilla glue tape and it fell right off the wall just a few hours after being firmly secured to the wall. Nothing ever happened on her roommate’s side of the room, and Alé has not slept in her room since. To this day, we do not know if we made actual contact with the spirits, but there are no reasonable explanations for what has been happening on our floor.
