How to Start a Healthy Lifestyle on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

Get into an exercise routine:

A good way to start your lifestyle in college is to get into an exercise routine. Now that we are adults, our bodies and health are very important. There are lots of things that you can do in order to stay active while living on campus. The WRC has a lot of exercise classes that students could take for free. During my freshman year, I did not take advantage of this. As a result, I lost out on the fun and gained weight. Luckily for you SAU students, I am here to help you NOT be in the same position I was my freshman year. Coming into my sophomore year, I learned how to live better and healthier away from home. I started doing an exercise routine since I got back from summer break. In this article, you will learn some ideas I have tried on campus and a few things I would like to consider in the future.

So, what does the WRC at SAU offer?

WRC stands for Wellness and  Recreationa Center at St. Ambrose University. In this facility, they offer a lot of classes and an open gym to help you become your best self. They have spinning classes, cardio-kickboxing, yoga, and a few other wellness classes.

The WRC also provides intramural sports for students to join. These are so fun because you get to meet new people on your team. There is also an open gym that you could access anytime during the day. Finding the kind of exercise that you enjoy would really help you stay active and get into a routine. Try to find at least 30 minutes of your day to workout. You can use it as a study break or even make it a daily morning thing so that the rest of the day you are the focus. It can even be a daily night thing so that you can sleep well at night. But even so, just exercising every day will make you feel like a better person.

For Fall 2019 the group fitness schedule is from Monday through Friday.

On Mondays, the wellness center has Express HIIT class at 7:15-7:45 AM. Spinning Class will be taken place at McCarthy 115 at 3:00-3:45 PM. Lastly, they have yoga classes from 6:00 to-7:00 PM.

On Tuesdays, they have open spin from 12:00-1:00 PM and then they have Spin class at 6:00-7:00 PM.

On Wednesdays, there is an open spin at 12:00-1:00 PM. Later that day, the express hit class is at 4:00-4:30 PM.

On Thursdays, open spin is at 3-00-5:00 PM and then Cardio Kickboxing would be at 6:15-7:15 PM.

On Fridays, they have a yoga class at 12:30-1:30 PM and then open spin would be available at 3:00-5:00 PM.

If you have further questions regarding the classes or intramural sports, feel free to ask one of the staff at the desk. They are there to help you!
