As we all know, especially as college students, it is very easy for your stress to get out of hand. With having multiple tests a week, papers due, and studying, you can get wrapped up in it all and fall apart. I go through weeks where I think about, “Wow, I really have no time to sit down and chill for a second” and I’m sure I am not the only one. College is a very stressful time and you need to be on top of it all. Here are some of the ways I handle my stress:

1. I make a list of the things due from Monday thru Friday and make sure I plan out times to actually sit down and do my homework, not say I will do it and leave it for the last minute. That is what will stress you out more. I know it is easier said than done but I personally feel better when something is done, and I know it is done well.

2. Getting my easier subjects and assignments out of the way. When I get those things done I am able to focus on the bigger assignments that I have and not have those littler assignments lingering as well.

3. Taking a break from your homework and getting a workout in. I am on the track team at St. Ambrose so my workouts are basically planned into my day but even with that said, it is a good escape from everything else going on with homework and school and helps get my mind off of it all. Even if you just make it to the gym for a 30 minute jog on the treadmill or a walk around the track, I still think anything is better than nothing and will help put you in a better mood.

4. On the weekends, I like to split my homework in between Saturday’s and Sunday’s. I usually go to Starbucks and sit there for a while and just focus on getting my homework done. It takes a lot more of the stress off of my week and clears it up for any studying or extra assignments I have to do.

5. Get out and have fun. I know it may be difficult sometimes to try and relax when you think about things you have to get done, but relaxing and hanging out with friends is a must. I live in a house with four other girls and being around them all the time and being able to hangout with them definitely helps get my mind off the school stuff. There are so many things to do around Davenport, Bettendorf, and Rock Island that you can do with friends that can help you get away for a while.

My name is Bridget Sulek, and I am a sophomore at St. Ambrose University. I am part of the track and field team and I also work part time at Francesca's Boutique. I am planning on majoring in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy and going to graduate school for Speech-Language Pathology.
