5 Ways to Get Through the Mid-Semester Lull

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Diego chapter.

We are halfway through the semester! Disregarding the stress we have because of midterms, we are all freaking out a little bit. “How did the semester go by this quickly?” “I really need to do well on that next mid-term” and “What am I going to do with my life?!” are all things we are probably thinking. Her Campus is here to offer you some tips on how to distract yourself and get out of your head for a little while!

1. Take a break!

Go to one of the many beautiful beaches San Diego has to offer. Go sit on the beach with a book or some music and completely forget about classes, work, and all of your stress for a while. Put in your earphones, go for a run, and blast some of your favorite music. Trust me, the loud music and beautiful beach will distract you from all the mid-semester stresses you may be having.

2. Do yoga!

Take a yoga class! Yoga has been the number one way for me to relieve my stress and get out of my head for a little while, and you can even take a free yoga class here on campus! Check out the classes online, there is always something going on that you can join in on.

3. Turn your phone off, don’t look at any social media, and turn on Netflix.

Binge-watching any TV show can distract you for as long as you keep watching.

4. Go on a field trip!

Go explore our beautiful city! Visit Coronado Island or go shopping in La Jolla. Getting out of your daily routine will divert your mind from all of its questions and stresses.

5. Try something new.

Try baking! Set aside a few hours to doing something you’ve never done before. If you’re not much of a cook, try making dinner for your roommates. It could turn out horribly, but at least you will direct your energy to something new, that may even lead you to discover a hidden talent. At the least, it’ll be something to laugh about.
