The Key To A Perfect Workout: Finding Your Soul

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

FINALLY our prayers have been answered. Instead of trekking to Greenwich for a beloved SoulCycle class, us Sacred Heart students can now head down the road to Westport! That’s right everyone, SoulCycle Westport’s grand opening was today, Thursday, April 23rd! Forget the Pitt Center, Planet Fitness, and The Edge…book your bike and head over to the SoulCycle studio.

For those of you that don’t know, SoulCycle is an indoor spin class that focuses on riding to the beat of the music and working your entire body through cycling. On the plus side, SoulCycle’s studios are lit only by candles so that cyclers can focus on their workout rather than their appearance during this instense class. While riding, cyclers work their abdominals by “tapping it back” on the bike (a move that requires you to tighten your abs and lean back on the seat) and by performing crunches. There is also a section of the workout dedicated to arms where riders can continue peddling the bike with free weights in hand. In this section, riders also do push ups on the bike, which adds to the challenge. You will undoubtedly come out of the class covered in sweat from head to toe, but you will leave feeling liberated and accomplished.  SoulCycle instructors guide you through the class on a podium with a killer playlist and motivational, inspirational phrases (be warned, you will feel an immense amount of desire to be recognized by your instructor. You will also feel an urge to befriend him or her).

SoulCycle is all about making your workout experience as “Soul-Full” and memorable as possible.  Everything about the SoulCycle adventure is memorable: the studio, the instructors, the music, the community of soulful cyclers, and just the overall atmosphere. This high intensity interval class will have you back in shape and geared up for that summer body in no time.  Oh, and don’t worry about the class being too difficult– because SoulCylce provides a dance party atmosphere, you’ll almost instantly forget that you are working out. The various peddling speeds and the insane music makes the 45 minutes enjoyable and fun, which is something other fitness crazes lack.  Working on your fitness should be something you want to do. By making their classes both inspiratonal and fun, SoulCycle embodies that message.

Also be sure to grab the amazing workout attire that SoulCycle lines the studio with all ready to purchase. With brands like Nike and Lululemon, you will be drooling at the clothes they have to offer. When you pull out your wallet, remember that a piece of SoulCycle clothing is like a tattoo that you wear proudly. The clothing proves that you are in on one of today’s top workout trends and that you are a “Soul” regular. Wearing your new Soul top, you’ll feel like part of the elite.

Once you take a SoulCylce class, you will not be able to stop talking about it. From now on, every Monday at 12 PM (when the week’s class schedule is posted), you will drop whatever you are doing to book your bike for the next class of your choice– it’s as intense as sitting at your computer waiting for those Beyoncé concert tickets to come on sale. So…you ready?
