You look good, you feel good, you’re grinding to get that degree and become the best version of yourself. You’re a hard worker, strong woman, and are setting a precedent for women to come. You’re a Girl Boss. And what better way to match your hustle than with a killer soundtrack? Here are ten songs that embody everything being a Girl Boss means.

Django Jane – Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae recently earned two Grammy nominations for her album Dirty Computer, and I’m not surprised in the slightest. A lot of her tracks have are laced with deep lyrics and powerful undertones. “Django Jane” is one of the most notable tracks that boasts feminism and black girl magic. On the days you need to remind yourself you’re a badass woman, I recommend blasting “Django Jane” and rapping along to lyrics about being bold and unapologetically yourself.

G.O.A.T. – Eric Bellinger

Eric Bellinger’s “G.O.A.T.” is the perfect anthem for any Girl Boss playlist. I’ve been listening to this song on repeat to hype me up in the mornings, because hearing someone chant, “She’s the G.O.A.T., greatest of all time” before I start my day is enough to keep me motivated for whatever is to come. Most known for writing hits like Usher’s “Let Me See” and Justin Bieber’s “Right Here,” “G.O.A.T” maintains Eric’s iconic catchy beats and flowing verses.

Grown Woman – Beyonce

Beyonce’s “Grown Woman” is a necessary staple to any woman’s playlist, period. The R&B and pop singer’s 2013 hit remains relevant today as it tells the story of a young girl growing up and making a name for herself in what she does. Definitely a must for a Girl Boss who’s trying to work hard to make every day better than the last.

Miss Independent – Ne-Yo

Ne-Yo sings about the leading lady in his life, and honestly, it’s refreshing to hear a man sing a song appreciating a woman for her independence. He adds in lines about recognizing that she’s the kind of woman that is the best version of herself for herself only. Self-love is the most important quality of any Girl Boss, so this song is the perfect soundtrack for becoming your own “Miss Independent”.

BO$$ – Fifth Harmony

What better song to add to a Girl Boss playlist than a song titled “Bo$$”? Fifth Harmony cranked out this self-empowering bop in 2014 that drops the names of iconic and successful Girl Bosses, including Oprah and Michelle Obama. You’ll find yourself singing – or in my case, screaming- lyrics that promote feminism, women’s empowerment, confidence, and reversed gender roles.

Did I – Kehlani

“Did I” is, in my opinion, one of R&B singer Kehlani’s most underrated songs. She sings about using her haters to motivate her, and it’s clear that hard work and dedication paved the way to her success while those who wanted to see her fail are stuck in a vicious cycle of hate. This song is a great reminder to keep hustling despite people trying to bring you down, because it will pay off eventually!

Just Fine – Mary J Blige

Some days, you’re just really feeling yourself and that confidence deserves a song to go with it. Mary J Blige’s “Just Fine” embodies self-confidence, and lyrics like, “so I like what I see when I’m looking at me when I’m walking past the mirror” notes that she admires the woman she’s become. Inspiring and something we should all take notes from, “Just Fine” is one of those mood boosters you’ll have on loop.

I Like That – Janelle Monae

As previously stated, Janelle Monae constantly produces content that has a heavy feminist vibe to it, so it’s no surprise that she made more than one appearance on this Girl Boss playlist. “I Like That” talks about embracing what makes you different and not really caring if other people don’t like it so long as you like it, and this is a defining quality of any boss woman.

Fighter – Christina Aguilera

“Fighter” by Christina Aguilera is another one of those songs about working hard despite adversity. Christina’s soulful voice delivers such emotion to listeners as she sings about overcoming toxic people to be where she is today. A Girl Boss must be resilient, and this song preaches the definition of it.

Confident – Demi Lovato

Rounding out the playlist is Demi Lovato’s “Confident”, which has been playing on the radio for years, and for good reason. The smash hit talks about doing things for yourself, and that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being confident about it. Any Girl Boss can relate heavily; confidence is key!

Playing these ten songs on repeat will surely make you feel like the Girl Boss that you are, and these tracks are sure to inspire the girl power, independence, and perseverance needed to maintain that title. Be sure to check out the playlist on Spotify next time you need to unleash those boss lady vibes.
