Most college students look forward to summer break. No assignments, no deadlines, no stress. And at first, it does feel nice to not have anything you have to do. But if you’re someone who actually enjoys being at school, the end of the semester can feel like a dreadful time.
You might miss the routine, being around people all the time, or just having something to do every day. Being back home feels slower, quieter, and honestly, kind of boring. The good news is there are still small ways to make summer time pass by better.
GEt out of the house
Summer really begins to drag when you stay home all day. Even if you don’t have plans, changing your environment makes a difference. Go for a walk, drive somewhere, sit outside, or go to the gym. Just getting out for a little while can help you feel less stuck. It doesn’t have to be anything big or planned.
Find small ways to stay busy
You don’t have to force yourself to be overly productive. Especially after going through two semesters of college and having to juggle everything that is thrown at you. But, when you’re used to always having something to do, going from that to doing nothing can feel weird.
Picking up small habits to fill your days can go a long way. And you can do this without stressing yourself out. Start a new book, watch a new show, rearrange your room, or find a new hobby just to switch things up. It’s not always about being productive. Doing small things to stay busy can help you not feel like your whole day is wasted.
Make plans when you can
One of the best things about being away at college is always being around people. Summer isn’t like that, and it can feel isolating sometimes. Even if everyone’s schedules are different, try to make plans when you can. It could be something as simple as grabbing food, running errand together, or even just hanging out and talking. Having something to look forward to makes a big difference.
Stay connected to your school life
If you miss being at school, don’t completely disconnect from it. Keep in touch with your friends and check in with people. It sounds small but staying connected to that part of your life makes everything feel easier.
let yourself feel it
It’s completely okay if you don’t love being home all summer. Missing school doesn’t mean you miss the stress. It means you liked the environment, independence, and routine. Everyday doesn’t have to be exciting. Some days are going to feel slow, and that’s normal. The goal isn’t to completely get rid of that, it’s to make your days feel a little better.
Summer doesn’t have to be the best time of your life to still have a good break. If you’re someone who actually enjoys being at school, it makes sense for you to struggle with transitioning back. Instead of trying to force it to feel perfect, focus on small things that make your days feel more like you.
