Have you ever been in the middle of a completely ordinary moment and suddenly thought, “Wow, I’m going to miss this someday”?
Maybe you’re sitting in the passenger seat of your best friend’s car, screaming the lyrics to a song you’ve heard a million times. Maybe you’re walking back to your dorm after a long day of classes, watching the sunset turn the sky different shades of pink and orange. Or maybe you’re sitting on your bedroom floor, getting ready for a night out with your friends, not realizing that the conversations you’re having will eventually become some of your favorite memories.
Nothing particularly extraordinary is happening. There’s no big celebration, no life-changing announcement, and certainly no dramatic movie soundtrack playing in the background.
But somehow, for just a second, everything feels exactly like a scene from a movie.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much of our lives we spend waiting for something exciting to happen.
We count down the days until Friday, look forward to the next holiday, and anticipate the big milestones we’ve spent years dreaming about. Especially in college, it can feel like we’re constantly looking ahead to the next big thing.
And while there’s nothing wrong with being excited about the future, I can’t help but wonder how many beautiful moments we overlook while waiting for something bigger.
When I was younger, I imagined growing up would be filled with these huge, unforgettable experiences.
I pictured the excitement of moving away to college, meeting new people, and finally experiencing the independence I’d always wanted.
And while those things have certainly been exciting, I’ve started to realize that some of my favorite college memories haven’t been the big events at all.
They’ve been the little things.
The spontaneous late-night conversations with my roommate when we both know we should have gone to sleep an hour ago. The walks across campus when the weather is finally perfect. The feeling of finishing a long week of classes and knowing you have absolutely nothing to worry about for the rest of the night.
Even something as simple as grabbing coffee before class or laughing so hard with your friends that you forget what you were originally talking about can feel special.
Maybe it’s because these moments aren’t planned. They don’t come with expectations or the pressure to have the time of your life.
They just happen.
And sometimes, that’s what makes them so memorable.
I genuinely believe that music has the ability to make almost any moment feel cinematic.
Think about it.
There’s something about listening to your favorite song while looking out the car window that makes even the most familiar roads feel different. Or putting your headphones on while walking across campus and suddenly feeling like you’re the main character in a coming-of-age movie.
A song can turn a five-minute walk into something memorable.
And the best part is that certain songs eventually become attached to specific moments in our lives.
There are songs that remind us of summer nights, childhood friendships, high school dances, and people we haven’t spoken to in years.
Sometimes, hearing the first few seconds of a song can bring back an entire period of your life.
It’s almost like having a personal soundtrack that follows you through every chapter.
And I think that’s pretty beautiful.
If there’s one thing college has taught me so far, it’s that life moves incredibly fast.
One minute, you’re packing up your childhood bedroom, wondering what living away from home will be like. The next, you’re walking around campus, recognizing familiar faces and realizing that the place that once felt completely unfamiliar is slowly becoming your new normal.
It’s exciting, but it’s also a little bittersweet.
Because while we’re busy adjusting to new routines and looking forward to the future, we’re also living through moments that our future selves will probably wish they could experience one more time.
Someday, the dorm room that feels so ordinary right now will be somewhere we used to live.
The people we see every day might become people we have to make plans weeks in advance to visit.
And the routines that occasionally feel repetitive will become the memories we look back on when we think about our college years.
That’s why I’ve been trying to appreciate the in-between moments a little more.
The moments that happen between classes, between big plans, and between all the milestones we’re so excited to reach.
Because those moments are still part of our story.Writing
The Little Things That Make Life Feel Like a Movie
Because sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones we don’t even realize are happening.
Have you ever been in the middle of a completely ordinary moment and suddenly thought, “Wow, I’m going to miss this someday”?

Finding Magic in the Ordinary
When I was younger, I imagined growing up would be filled with these huge, unforgettable experiences.

The Soundtrack to Our Lives
I genuinely believe that music has the ability to make almost any moment feel cinematic.
Think about it.
There’s something about listening to your favorite song while looking out the car window that makes even the most familiar roads feel different. Or putting your headphones on while walking across campus and suddenly feeling like you’re the main character in a coming-of-age movie.

And I think that’s pretty beautiful.
The Moments We Don’t Think to Photograph
I’m the type of person who loves taking pictures.
Whether it’s a group photo with friends, a pretty sunset, or a random moment that probably doesn’t mean much to anyone else, I love having something to look back on.
But I’ve noticed that some of my favorite memories are the ones I never thought to capture.
They’re the conversations that happened unexpectedly. The jokes that made absolutely no sense but somehow had everyone laughing. The nights that started with no plans and ended up becoming stories we still talk about.
Those moments might not make it onto Instagram, but they’re still there.
And sometimes, I think they’re even more special because of it.
We live in a world where everything feels like it needs to be documented, posted, or shared. But not every beautiful moment needs an audience.
Some things are meant to be experienced rather than photographed.
And sometimes, the best memories are the ones that exist only between the people who were there.
Learning to Love the In-Between
If there’s one thing college has taught me so far, it’s that life moves incredibly fast.
One minute, you’re packing up your childhood bedroom, wondering what living away from home will be like. The next, you’re walking around campus, recognizing familiar faces and realizing that the place that once felt completely unfamiliar is slowly becoming your new normal.

Your Life Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect to Be Beautiful
I think social media has convinced us that romanticizing our lives requires some kind of picture-perfect routine.
The aesthetically pleasing morning coffee, the perfectly decorated dorm room, the coordinated outfits, and the carefully curated photo dumps.
And while I love a cute Pinterest-inspired moment as much as the next girl, I don’t think that’s what makes life feel like a movie.
Real life isn’t always aesthetically pleasing.
Sometimes your room is a mess, you’re running late to class, and your coffee order isn’t even right.
Some days are stressful, overwhelming, or just completely uneventful.
But that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth appreciating.
Because the beauty of life isn’t that every moment is perfect. It’s that even imperfect days can have little pieces of happiness hidden throughout them.
Maybe it’s a text from someone you weren’t expecting to hear from. Maybe it’s your favorite song coming on at exactly the right time. Or maybe it’s something as simple as realizing you’ve made it through a difficult week.
Those moments count, too.
And maybe being the main character of your own life isn’t about having the most exciting story. Maybe it’s about learning to appreciate the story you’re already living.
One day, we’ll look back on this chapter of our lives and remember the things we never realized were significant.
The familiar walks. The inside jokes. The random Tuesday afternoons. The people who made ordinary days feel extraordinary.
And I have a feeling those will be the moments we miss the most.
So take the pictures, play your favorite songs a little louder, and appreciate the spontaneous plans that turn into unforgettable nights.
But don’t forget to enjoy the moments when nothing particularly exciting is happening, either.
Because life doesn’t always announce when something is about to become a memory.
Sometimes, the most beautiful scenes are the ones we didn’t even know we were filming.
