In light of the tragedies, we have faced over the past couple of semesters and the mental health crisis with lack of support of campus I wanted to share with you some important tips. In high school, I experienced depression and went to therapy so self-care has become extremely important to me. Of course this will not apply to everyone but I hope to help you in any way I can!

Keep a journal

Write. Write nonsense. Write your thoughts, write down things you hear and see. Write down what you’re grateful for. Doodle or draw things. Do what makes you feel happy. Write down what, who or even places that you’re grateful for. This is something that has always helped me.

    Drink more water

Staying hydrated will improve your thinking. Caffeine is a wonderful thing, but give your body a break girl!

    Organize

Having a planner has changed my life. I use an Erin Condren Life Planner and I have been using one for the past 3 years. I treat myself by going to Michaels or I shop on Etsy. Treat yourself to stickers, washi tape, and some nice pens too!

    Make your bed every morning!

I cannot stress this enough. Make. Your. Bed! Start your day off by doing something. The smallest things make the difference.

Talk if you need to talk

Sometimes you just need to talk, sometimes you just want to be left alone. However, if you’re having serious thoughts about harming yourself or others…please reach out.

Do what makes you comfortable. Everyone is different and everyone has different needs and it is so important to take care of yourself. It is the little things that can help us the most. Self-care has been hyped up with lavish, expensive days but it does not have to be like that. Remember to take your time and enjoy what you can this semester. Reach out to even your happiest of friends to see how they’re doing. Be genuine because we need it in this world…now more than ever. Be kind. Be you. Take care of yourself.
