Disney has done it again! Frozen is sure to melt your heart this holiday season, but not in the way you may think. Disney has tricks and schemes in this classic new story, which is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Snow Queen.”
Frozen opens with the tale of two sisters, Elsa and Anna, both princesses of the Kingdom of Arendelle. Elsa, unlike Anna, has the power to create ice and snow. Her power is not easy to control, and after becoming Queen of Arendelle, Elsa quickly flees into the mountains where she undergoes a snowy transformation, but also brings eternal winter to Arendelle. Anna, wanting to protect and reunite with her older sister, heads off into the mountains in pursuit of Elsa with some new friends she meets along the way.
Every Disney movie has a witty sidekick, the comedic relief of the story, and in Frozen that special character is Olaf- the adorable, friendly snowman who has dreams of seeing what summer is like. Olaf also gives the most meaningful quote in the movie, “Some people are worth melting for.”
Frozen is nothing like Disney movies before it. Yes, as a Disney movie tradition, there is true love, but Frozen is about the love amongst family- the love amongst sisters. Frozen shows the dynamics of two sisters, two different lives, and how they change throughout the years. Elsa is serious, cautious and wishes to protect people even if it means she will be lonely forever. Anna is cheerful, excited and very free-spirited. Anna craves adventure and love, while Elsa is unsure of what she wants or who she is supposed to be.
Where most Disney princesses want love and to find that special someone (like her younger sister Anna wants) Elsa is determined to serve as a respectful queen. She shows no signs of craving love or affection from a prince charming. Instead, Elsa wants herself. She wants to be free within her own skin, she wants to be able to love herself, and hopes that her sister can learn to love her too.
The soundtrack is fresh, beautiful and a little sexy (Oh my!). Whether you are a musical fan or not, Frozen will have you singing from the beginning to the end. The soundtrack is available now on iTunes, and for Demi Lovato fans, she sings the single version of “Let it Go.” So be sure to check her out on the Frozen soundtrack.
Frozen will have you guessing and blushing until the very last snowflake. A movie that is perfect for a date night, a family night, friends night, or a sister night. Be sure to go and watch Frozen, and remember the magic of a Disney film.
