Creative Corner: A Letter To My Former Guidance Counselor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

Please tell me

what it feels like

when someone you trusted

twists your words and spreads

them all over school,

tells you that you’re not worth it anymore,

tells you you’re just some lonely girl

with no purpose.

Please tell me how “words can never hurt me.”

Especially since words are the only thing

I have

to fight back;

yet, you tell me

they’re worthless, too.

Please tell me those 9 years

were worth my silence,

that the days I spent crying

were just the healing process,

that my self-esteem will one day be restored.

Please tell me that one day

you’ll tell the next girl to fight back

instead of ignoring the one thing

that’s destroying her.

I am a full-time student at Rowan University majoring in both Early Childhood Education and Literary Studies, with a minor in Writing Arts. I absolutely love writing poetry and hope to get some of mine published one day. I LOVE to read, particularly YA fiction. On my free time I like to watch Netflix, or browse Barnes and Noble for my next read, with a caramel macchiato in hand.
