I live by myself this year. I’ve lived on my own for the better part of three years now because I’m a Resident Assistant but, I’ve never had space like this before. My own bathroom. My own kitchen. My own living room. My own everything! It’s been a month now living like this and it’s been nothing but a discovery every day. Here are a few things you’ll learn if you live by yourself.
- You shed a lot more than you think
-
It’s crazy how much hair I have lying around. I feel like I could make a wig out of the hair that I find in the shower, on my carpet, and even on my kitchen counter.
- You’ll constantly wonder if you should get a pet.
-
Living alone is a bit boring and there’s nothing like having a live-in best friend. I swear one day I’m gonna snap and buy a cat.
- You have no clue what temperature you like
-
My apartment is always going between too cold and too hot. I genuinely am never comfortable in my own home.
- You’re constantly afraid of getting murdered
-
I feel like every bump in the night is someone sneaking into my apartment. I’ve already banned scary movies within my apartment because of this.
- You talk to yourself…and it kinda worries you
-
You’re starting to create a new meaning to “be your own best friend”.
- You get a little lonely
-
It’s crazy doing zooms online and staying in your apartment all day. It’s even worse when you don’t interact with people outside of your home for the better part of it.
- You love having something that’s truly yours
-
I can do what I want whenever I want. It’s bliss.
I worked so hard to get my apartment by paying my dues as an RA. I love the fact that I earned everything in my apartment. It feels like a space that is uniquely mine and it’s priceless.
