Think about your confidence as a balloon, the more you inflate it the more you will feel brave enough to try new things. Or alternatively compare it to a muscle that can be exercised and built, until it can support all challenges that may come at you. Let’s now see how we can facilitate our way to the peak of self-confidence with some practical tips.

But first of all, what is self-confidence? Call it high self-esteem, positive body image, self-love; but in the end self-confidence is a skill that can be learnt. Trusting your own abilities and intuitions is key to raise yourself above others and strive, particularly in such a competitive society we live in. Further, from a psychological point of view, a strong self-confidence can enhance your personal performance, your resilience, and create more healthy relationships.

Now that we have an idea of what self-confidence is and how important it is, we should finds new ways to train it. Clearly, training your confidence can be tricky, and many times the progress is very slow — fortunately, we have five strategies for you.

  1. Practice courage Try things that scare you, and become comfortable when doing them. Going out of the comfort-zone, for how cliche it may sound, will give you a new perception of yourself. The braver you are, the easier it will be to build own’s trust: feeling scared will become power, and accomplishments will boost your self-esteem.

  2. Allow yourself to lose How many times have you said to yourself “I can’t make it”, or “There will surely be someone better than me”? Actually, there is a chance you won’t arrive first or won’t accomplish you goal, but who really cares? Everybody is too busy minding their own business to look at your failures. Allowing yourself to fail at times, can be the excuse to pause for a second and start fresh again.

  3. Visualise what you want, and go for it Use your imagination to create the best version of yourself. Our brain does not distinguish what is real from what is not, and creating positive enforcement can become a new reality. To put it simply, desiring something everyday will prompt you to act and make shift in your life.

  4. Treat yourself well Talking well and being kind to yourself is a key part of the process. Putting yourself down instead, will further hinder your self-confidence rather than boosting it. You must encourage yourself every step of the way and become your best fan!

  5. Don’t rush it                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Like training a muscle takes time and effort, self-confidence does as well. No matter how confidence you are today, there will always be up-and- down’s during life — we have all heard that “the way to success is not linear”! Accepting and loving yourself could be a daunting task if we rush to get to the finish line, because when it comes to self-confidence there is no finish line at all.
