How to Get Over the Post-Homecoming Blues

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

So, Homecoming is over and I’m in mourning. My friends and I have sat around for the past few nights, exclusively talking about how devastating it is that Homecoming has come and gone once again. Homecoming is one of the best days of the year and when it’s over it’s hard to not feel a little disappointed. From my experience on dealing with this, here are a few tips on how to get over the post-Hoco blues.

1.     Look forward to Halloween

If you haven’t already, figure out what costumes you’re going to wear for the Stages Halloween night and other parties. Look up some examples online to get excited and head over to Party City before you’re left with no options. With it being only two weekends away, you can forget about how sad you are that Hoco is over because Halloween is so close.

2.     Avoid Aberdeen

Unless you want to get an immediate wave of emotions from all those great memories of climbing onto rooftops and finding your friends in the crowd and embracing like you haven’t seen each other in six years, don’t walk down Aberdeen. Walking down Aberdeen post Hoco is like walking through a graveyard of all your best moments.

3.     Be thankful that you’re not one of the 33 people that got arrested

Sorry if you’re reading this and you were – but a great way to move past the misery is to remember that you succeeded in not getting taken away from Hoco day.

4.     Reminisce on all the highlights

Sit with your fellow homecoming survivors and recount the entire day from start to finish. I don’t know about you, but I could talk about all the hilarious things that happened for days. Eat all your leftover tri-colour pancakes and re-tell the story of you shotgunning with some unreal alumni as many times as people will listen.

5.     Post a classic Instagram

How will everyone know that Queen’s has the best homecoming if you don’t post one or two pictures with all the creative tri-colour outfits? Make sure to edit it on VSCO and come up with a creative caption that perfectly hides your post-hoco sadness.

6.     Start a countdown on your wall for next Homecoming

The only definite way I know of how to get over not having Homecoming for an entire year is to get excited for the next one immediately. Every day is closer to the next best day of the year.
