Campus Cutie: Serene Nekoui

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

Name: Serene Nekoui

Major: Global Development

Year: Third Year

1. What made you come to Queen’s U?

Initially, I wanted to go to University of Toronto, but Queen’s offered the Castle Program where you spend your first year in England, so I took that opportunity.

2. What is the one thing you wish you knew before coming to university?

Probably that it is okay to be on your own level. Just because I always made sure I was up to par with everyone else – so if I’m not taking five courses like everyone else, or getting A’s like everyone else, or involved in extracurricular activities like everyone else, that it is okay because things happen at different times for everyone.

3. What has been your best memory so far?

University shouldn’t be divided into one good memory. Having one good class, or situations where I’m in watching a movie with friends, or an event like Homecoming, and just a normal Friday night out all make up my university experience.

4. Who’s your favorite musician?

I love The Weeknd.

5. What is something you wish was different about our age group?

This is so cliché, but hookup culture. I know that people say hookup culture is very subject to our generation, but every generation had hookup culture. When you look back at at the 60’s where drive-in’s were very popular, everyone would hook up there. But, I don’t like the idea of the unspoken non-existing thing until someone verbalizes it and you make it official.

6. How have you gotten involved at Queen’s U?

I became an online columnist for MUSE and it has helped me improve and practice my writing skills. It has also helped me gain more friends and get involved in nightlife. I feel I am more of a Queen’s student as opposed to last year.

7. Where do you spend your time outside of school?

I usually go to Crave to study, or you’ll find me just hanging out, listening to music, or with friends.

8. What is your favorite place to eat in Kingston?

Oooooh – Greco’s. Good stuff, good stuff.

9. What is something you would advise your younger self on from what you know now?

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Things are played out how they’re meant to happen. The universe has a plan for you.

10.  What’s your favorite meme?

Definitely caveman Spongebob.
