First Halloween Party Ever? Here’s What You Should Remember To Do

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

Who doesn’t love Halloween? Costumes, parties and endless candy make my heart happy. From haunted houses to horror movie nights with your friends, it’s the spookiest time of year. As you pull on your fishnet tights and apply that second layer of highlighter remember that everything isn’t always as it seems.

Here are some tips to ensure that you have a safe and fun Halloween:

  1. Do not go anywhere alone.

My mom always said that I have to go somewhere with at least two other people. Even if it is to the bathroom, never go alone. It gets darker much earlier in the day now than it does in the summer making tricks easier to accomplish.

  1. Remember: the minute you set down your drink, it is no longer yours.

(Disclaimer: I am not trying to endorse drinking, but those who indulge, please be safe!) Firstly, never let someone get you a drink unless you fully trust them. Do not set your drink down where it could get mixed up with someone else’s. If you walk away from it, do not try to come back for it later.

  1. Keep tabs on your friends!

You don’t have to act like crazy parents constantly yelling for their kids and embarrassing them, but it’s a good idea to watch out for your friends. Just look for them occasionally if you get separated and make sure they’re safe. And they (hopefully) will do the same for you.

  1. Do not drink if you know you will be driving.

This one is simple. Just don’t do it. Thanks!

  1. Oh, so you want to leave with someone?

Okay perfect, you or a friend met someone super cute. Just make sure everything feels alright and said individual doesn’t make you feel like something is off. Listen to your gut and what your friends tell you. They just want you to be safe!

Lastly and most importantly, have fun! Holiday season is the best time of the year so go crazy if you want, just be conscious of your decisions. If someone is making you feel uncomfortable, don’t be afraid to ask someone for help. I want you to be able to have fun and maybe leave with that cutie dressed as a unicorn, but look out for yourself. So what are we waiting for, let’s get spooky!!

Happy Halloween!
