What did Her Campus Penn State do this Summer?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

From internships in the nation’s capital to vacations down south, our Her Campus team spent summer 2017 all over the United States. Check out how some of our awesome team members spent their days in the sun below:

This summer I interned with the Marketing and Communications Department at the National Building Museum. The Museum had a large installation in the building’s Great Hall this summer called the Hive (pictured below). I absolutely loved working and living in Washington D.C.  — Kelsie Ahern

I had the amazing opportunity to intern for the communications department at RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, which also runs the nation’s sexual assault hotline. I was able to hear first-hand the stories of survivors and to be able to advocate for them was an experience I’ll never forget. — Allie Maniglia

This summer I drove down to Ft. Myers Beach with my wonderful roommate and a few of my other PSU friends. We went to Disney World and swam with manatees near the condo we stayed at. This trip was an unforgettable experience that made me feel closer to the Penn State family I had created. — Hope Weltman

This summer I was able to help those in need in a big way. I traveled to Moyuta, Guatemala to participate in a medical mission. We helped over 800 patients with many different issues. In a small village, we performed dental work, eye examinations, minor surgeries, ultrasounds for expecting mothers, and we had a general clinic.  — Ally May

This summer I held an internship with a partner of the U.S. Department of State through the Penn State Washington Program. I loved working in the nation’s capital and I was lucky to have a great group of co-interns by my side. I learned so much and am so thankful for the opportunities I was given. — Kelly Chartrand

This summer I interned at the Erie Office of U.S. Senator Bob Casey Jr. I gained first-hand knowledge of the daily operations of a Senate office by working with constituents and staff on issues affecting Pennsylvania. I also worked at events that Senator Casey hosted such as the Town Hall in Erie. — Abby Biernacki

This summer I spent two weeks on the boat with my family, traveling to places like Block Island, Newport, Montauk, Watch Hill, and Old Saybrook. I was able to enjoy the outdoors through sightseeing and exploring as well as trying new things and learning a lot in the process. Living with my family in such close quarters was challenging, but I can’t say I didn’t appreciate it. — Grace Incerto

Wishing you a fantastic school year from all of us at Her Campus!
