Sexual Violence Awareness And Prevention Week At Penn State

Every year, multiple organizations come together at Penn State to host Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention Week. The week includes series of events, panels, speakers and activities that aim to educate and empower students to combat sexual violence on college campuses. 

Her Campus Penn State is a proud partner of a week that provides so many incredible resources to the Penn State community. Here is a list of things happening this week! 

3/16 – Red Flag Project (All day on HUB Lawn): The Red Flag Project encourages students to say something when they see a red flag in an unhealthy relationship. Students will place red flags all across the HUB Lawn to serve as a reminder that when you see something unsettling, you should do something about it. 

3/20 – Sheryl WuDunn (6:30pm Freeman Auditorium): An Asian American writer, Ms. WuDunn has written three New York Times Bestsellers in addition for winning a Pulitzer Prize for her work covering China and Tiananmen Square. She serves as a passionate advocate for women in developing countries. To learn more about her work, watch her Ted Talk here.

 

3/21 – Clothesline Project (All day on Pollock Road in front of HUB): By decorating a t-shirt, women are given an outlet to express themselves and their feelings in regards to violence against women that happens everyday. Participate in the event by decorating your shirt, or stop by to read the sentiments of your peers on Pollock Road. 

3/22 – Angelica Ross (7pm Freeman Auditorium): Founder of TransTech Social Enterpreises, an oranization that empowers transgender and gender nonconforming people through training in leadership, will be speaking about her journey as a transgender person in the professional world and how she has utilized her experiences to help others. 

3/23 – Stand For State Workshop (3-6pm Location TBD): Stand For State is Penn State’s bystander intervention program that hosts training workshops to help students understand what they can do to help when they see an uncomfortable situation transpiring. 

3/24 – SVAP Gala Benefitting Centre County Women’s Resource Center (5:30pmHintz): Co-hosted by the Penn State Lion Ambassadors, SVAP Week culminates into a formal gala to wrap up the week. Purchase your tickets here

There are so many incredible events to attend during a week that is full of empowerment and awarness. Sexual Violence Awarness and Prevention Week is something that every single person can benefit from! Don’t miss out on some of these opportunities!
