Staying healthy in college is something many students struggle with. As college students, we are constantly being surrounded by unhealthy options and it can be hard to choose the healthier options.

Still it is very much possible to live a healthy lifestyle in college that will nourish both your body and mind. Here are some of my tips on how to live healthier lifestyle in college.

Make sleep a priority

By prioritizing your sleep, you get a good start to every morning, with your mind and body ready to take on the day. It’s okay if some nights you can’t get your normal amount of sleep because you have an exam to study for, but it is important that for the nights that follow to get back to regular sleep schedule again.

Use the university-provided facilities

One of the perks of being a college student is that we are given many facilities and options for getting in our daily exercise. With three gyms, a variety of workout classes and active clubs to join, there is something for everyone.

Make healthier choices when grocery shopping

It is easier to make unhealthy eating choices when living in a space where you are surrounded by unhealthy food. When going to the grocery store try to buy healthy food and snacks so that you don’t have the option of choosing junk food over healthy food.

Find what works best for you

It is important to remember that everyone is different, and finding what works best for you is going to help you be most successful in living and enjoying a healthy lifestyle. So, if you hate eating broccoli or running on a treadmill, don’t do it. You just have to find what healthy choices work best for you and stick with them.

It’s okay to reward yourself

Living a healthy lifestyle does not mean you have to be perfect all of the time or even give up your favorite foods. Treating yourself to pizza or ice cream once a week when you’re craving is perfectly fine and will keep you satisfied and on track.

Make time for your healthy habits

It’s important to have a clear schedule for yourself and work in time to get in your exercise or cook a healthy meal for yourself. Setting aside time in your schedule will make sure you’re able to make healthy choices.

Don’t be too hard on yourself

Being healthy is lifestyle, not a diet or some fad. Being healthy has no set shape, size, or look. It’s a journey and everyone is going at their own pace. When you don’t eat necessarily healthy or don’t meet your set goals for a week, remember to not be so hard on yourself and to make the decision to get back on track.
