5 Easiest Ways to Relax When You’re Having a Rough Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

If you ever feel too stressed, whether you have too much schoolwork or your work is becoming too demanding, don’t worry – we’ve all been there. Here are some of my favorite tips that will help you ease your mind and be more relaxed:

1. Breathe

Of course, breathing is essential for human beings, but I feel like sometimes we underestimate the power of it. If you’re ever feeling too overwhelmed and need to wind down, it might be helpful to lie in your bed and breathe deeply, being aware of it. Doing this, believe it or not, has helped me a lot in the past, and it really helps me clear my mind and forget about my problems. I highly encourage you to try this next time you’re feeling stressed.

2. Get moving!

Exercise has been proven to produce endorphins, which are known to be the hormones of happiness. Not only does working out make you happy, but it helps you clear your mind and escape the world for a while, and sometimes this is just what you need to unwind after a long day of school or work.

3. Yoga

If you’re not into hardcore fitness, then try doing some yoga! It doesn’t have to be at a studio, you could search tutorials on YouTube, and practice it from the comfort of your own room. I went to my first Yoga class last week, and I don’t think I have ever felt more relaxed or at ease as I did when the class finished. As you stretch your muscles and get in tune with your breathing, your mind gets into a state of peace that will for sure relax you and make you feel great about yourself.

4. Listen to music

This is one of the best things to release stress. Listening to your favorite song or artist will instantly put you in a better mood. I specifically like to listen to music whenever I’m getting ready or walking to class, as it distracts me as I go about my day and makes it more enjoyable.

5. Stay off social media

In today’s society, we are so consumed by checking Instagram or seeing Snapchat stories or responding to texts as fast as we can, that we forget to live in the present and sometimes it’s good to have a little social media cleanse and take in the world around us and everything it has to offer.

I’m a current junior majoring in Journalism and French at Penn State. My dream is to work in publishing after college and go to law school to study corporate law.

She is a contributing writer and Campus Correspondent for Her Campus Penn State and her hobbies are reading, listening to music, and watching hockey. Originally hailing from Jakarta, Indonesia, her dream for the future is to someday be part of the book publishing industry, digital marketing or work on a media team for a sports team.
