Tips For Making the Most of the Career Fair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Providence chapter.

Although an other internship is the last thing we want to be worried about at the start of a new school year, it’s important we network with companies now to help make the internship process easier in the spring.  Lucky for you, Career Services is hosting a Career Fair on September 16th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., which will draw in dozens of local, well-known companies and Friar alumni to Peterson.

Because the Career Fair can be overwhelming, follow these tips to make the most of your experience!

  • Dress for success!  It’s been said to dress for the job you want, not the one you have.  Go for a business casual look that is appropriate for meeting professionals.
  • Bring your resume.  You may not give it to every booth you stop by, but have at least five in case the opportunity arises.
  • Don’t follow your friends around.  Go to the booths that interest you, not because all of your girlfriends want the free pens.
  • Look for student ambassadors.  A lot Friars who have already interned at companies will be at the fair to share their experiences.  Talk to them to get the details on what it’s really like to be an intern and use them as a connection during the application process.
  • Smile!  Believe it or not, this simple gesture makes a huge impact on someone’s first impression of you.  It’s the first step in networking and gives a face to your resume.

We hope to see you all at the Career Fair!
