Have You Ever Tried This One?: Communal Experiences from First Semester Freshman Year

Now that we are in the first blushes of semester two, here is Her Campus Providence’s list of experience that all freshman girls have in their first semester.

  • Developing an obsession with a little phone game (i.e. Candy Crush) and having it be the backbone of your mental health.
  • Create such a deep need for one singular water bottle that goes absolutely everywhere with you. At some point during the semester, you will go somewhere without it and inevitably someone (most likely a professor) will comment on its absence. You will promptly question everything.
  • Decide that you are an academic weapon on a Sunday in response from going way too hard in the days prior.
  • Find a spot on campus to study where few people ever study. See someone else in that prized study spot and get demoted to the library.
  • Either have no heat at all in your dorm or slowly get boiled alive by the elderly radiator.
  • Find a food (or sweet treat) from the dining hall that only ever makes you happy and is your favorite. It will simultaneously make your stomach so upset.
  • Get the flu (or pneumonia or strep or whatever) and have the Student Health Center not really know what to do even though it is their entire job
  • Try to avoid someone and then see them in the dining hall, library, student center, or literally anywhere else you go
  • Question if college bathroom tap water is really getting the water bottle from above clean and then choose to ignore that thought.
  • Have any tiny bit of trouble printing something and question if it is a sign to drop the class (you shouldn’t drop the class)
  • Have any minor inconvenience in any area of your life and question if it is a sign to drop the class (stay in it, you will be fine)
  • And finally, find one person and so deeply bond with them. Promptly become insperarble and create a standing dinner reservation at the dining hall together.
