Staying in Portland for spring break and not sure what to do for a whole week of freedom? Here are a few suggestions that involve getting out of Portland and embracing the greater Portland area. There are many options to experience the nature of the greater Portland area.

1.     Go camping!

Camping is a great way to get outside and explore while being a part of nature and the outdoors. Camping also allows for meeting new people because you live very close to others. Some campgrounds that are close to the city include L.L. Stuart State Park and Oxbow Regional Park. Other destinations could include Mt. Hood, such as Trillium Lake and Lost Lake Campground.

2.     High ropes course

This involves climbing up into the trees while safely being tied to a rope. This is always a fun activity that involves testing your skills! The best part about a high ropes course is it’s a great team activity; take as many friends as you want. Possible destinations near Portland include Tree-to-Tree Adventure Park and Pumpkin Ridge Zip Tour.

3.     Indoor Waterpark

Depending on where you’re from, this could be a new concept to you, an indoor waterpark. There are two “parks” near Portland that both allow for a full day of water fun. The two locations include North Clackamas Aquatic Park and Wings & Waves Waterpark. Both of these locations have multiple indoor pools and slides. This would be perfect for a rainy day where you still want to enjoy some water fun.

4.     Horseback riding

Whether you want to go on a short stroll or long adventure on horseback there are plenty of options for that near Portland. Dream Ridge Stables in Clackamas County offers lessons or a private rides. Or even closer is Suavie Island Stables also has multiple options for lessons for people of all experience levels. Lastly Mount Hood Adventure Park at Ski Bowl also has options for horseback riding through the mountains of Mount Hood.

5.     Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival

This is a more mellow option, but still very fun. The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival has fields of tulips in all colors. This is a beautiful sight to see and a great activity to enjoy a relaxing spring break!
