This woman is incredibly creative and inspiring! Don’t be shy and say “hi” to campus celebrity Graceanne Garza!

Who or what inspires you for you piece?

My main ispiration for my past pieces was my rabits, I was a 4-H’er for 8 years. Most of my pieces incorporate my rabbits somehow because they’re a big part of my life. So in a lot of my pieces you can find a rabbit in the center of it. Just little icons such as that. As a person, or someone who isnpires me, I would say one of my old teachers, from high school. Cilirina and Cirby Shaw were my art teacher who helped my in my art, and they were really great people.

When did you start drawing?

Way back when you start drawing -usually two or three. But when I really got into it was probably middle school, I really enjoyed doing it. Then, it kind of went away for a while because it turned to be people asking me to draw things for them and it wasn’t really my creativity floursishing. When I entered high school, probably junior year, it started kicking in again and I enjoyed doing art a lot more and started experimenting with different mediums such as alcohol inks, tattooing.

Where did you learn to paint, self taught or by someone else?

We had a lot of paintings in my house. My grandmother was a water-colorist. Often times I would just look at her paintings. She passed away before I could learn anything from her. I would look at her watercolors to see what kind of technique she used. Mr. Shaw, in high school, really helped me with my water colors. My. Arina helped me with all different types of mediums and helped me explore those.

What is your favotire piece you’ve done and why?

My favorite piece -well, I have two. My favorite piece was when I tattood a huge piece of elk hide, it has a gigantic owl on it and it was just something I decided to randomly do -totally out of the box, that’s why I love it, I’ve never seen anything like it. Another piece that I did is called life before man. It has all these animals that are circling oen another at the bottom and at the top it just has a serengeti.

How long do your drawings usually take?

I can do them over a period of, ususally, a few hours in a day. So I would spend four or five hours in a day but they can take up to ten days. Just for me to form the idea, sketch it out, erase it, sketch it out, and yeah final product.

Where do you get your ideas?

I get them from images I’ve taken, like photos. I’ve looked at a photo before and tried to copy it, and make it really abstract but copy it still. It turned out to be really different. I get inspiration from other people, like pinterest. I’ll pull one thing from another and form my own idea.
