5 Tips to Enhance your Live Music Experience

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

Spring and summer are right around the corner, so you know what that means. Music festival season is upon us! However, there really is no particular season just for concerts. Every season is concert season! So, whether you are already prepping yourself for Coachella, or just catching a local indie band at a small venue in Portland, here are five tips to help enhance your live music experience.

  1. Be Prepared!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    If you are going to an outdoor venue, bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and a blanket if you got the cheap tickets and have to sit in the back. Wear you cutest concert outfit, but plan accordingly for the weather you will be encountering. You’ll still have a fantastic time, but a little less fantastic if you are too hot or too cold.
  2. Give yourself ample time to get there before the concert starts!                                                                                                                                                                Chances are there will be a ton of traffic near and at the venue, so by the time you find a place to park, (Bonus points if you Uber!) wait in line to get into the venue, go through security, and find your seats, you’d have missed the opener! In this case, planning ahead is key!
  3. Splurge on that concert tee they are selling at the venue!                                                                                                                                                                                     I know they can be ridiculously expensive, but they are an awesome way to commemorate the event. They are also very practical! Who doesn’t love a good concert t-shirt?
  4. If you are 21, have a drink, but don’t go overboard!                                                                                                                                                                                         Going out for drinks before the concert or grabbing one at the concert can be a really fun and festive, but there is a fine line between drinking socially and being drunk. You’re definitely going to want to remember the concert, and getting hammered would make the ticket a waste of money. Be responsible!
  5. Try to avoid snap chatting the entire concert.                                                                                                                                                                                                          Go ahead and take a few pictures, but don’t spend the whole time snapping, tweeting and instagramming. It takes away from your experience, and let’s be real here, how many of your followers really want to see zoomed out photos of a concert they didn’t even go to? Just be present in the moment and soak it all in!
