A Guide to Farmer’s Markets in Pittsburgh

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Spring in Pittsburgh can be exciting for a lot of reasons: you don’t have to wear a parka to class anymore, you can start wearing all your favorite outfits again, and it’s finally warm enough to venture out of your apartment! As for myself, I’m really enjoying the weather and that fact that the farmer’s markets are starting to open all across Pittsburgh! Farmer’s markets mean fresh produce at really good prices—and you get to help support local farmers! If you’re new here, or if you’re new to the farmer’s market scene, you’ve come to the right place for a listing of some of the best farmer’s markets in Pittsburgh.

1. East Liberty Farmer’s Market Cooperative — all year!

Located just a short distance outside of Oakland, the East Liberty Farmer’s Cooperation runs all year! They’re located at 344 North Sheridan Avenue, and they are open every Saturday from 5 A.M. until noon. They boast fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, cheese, and oils and vinegars.

3. The Oakland Farmer’s Market — June through November

Although specific dates have not been released yet, this particular farmer’s market is really popular among Pitt students. Taking place in Schenley Plaza right across from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, The Oakland Farmer’s Market makes fresh produce and other products easily accessible to university students. The market usually operates from early June to November, so keep an eye out for opening day!

4. Farmers at Phipps — June 1 through October

Farmers at Phipps is a relatively new program that’s had a lot of success. This market boasts that all of its products are organic or Certified Naturally Grown. Opening on June 1st, this market has open hours every Wednesday from 2:30-6:30 p.m.

5. Market Square Farmer’s Market — May 12 through October 26
