Easy Dorm Room Apple Recipes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Fall is here and just about everyone seems to be hitting up the apple orchards. Brown boots, vest, flannel shirt and arm reaching for that perfect honey crisp… #doitfortheinsta, am I right? But what about after? Returning with a bundle of apples to a tiny dorm room can seem, well, silly. Why pick when there’s nowhere to put? Especially with the confinements of a dorm, where it’s normal to only have a microwave and mini-fridge, apple picking can turn out to not be a fun fall activity.

But don’t let the stressor of dorm living diminish your picking motivation! Apple recipes are some of the easiest and yummiest. Not to mention time is on your side. If refrigerated, apples can last weeks! So you have plenty of time to try out these recipes and don’t necessarily have to eat an apple a day (ha).

Plus, all of these recipes are fully dorm proof. The only major equipment needed includes a microwave or fridge. They also have simple ingredients that you’ll likely already have. So eat, repeat and enjoy these easy dorm room apple recipes.

Overnight Apple Oats

Start off your day with apples! Overnight oats are an easy way to have breakfast on the go. Plus, the prep the night before is super easy. Simply mix the ingredients in a jar or sealable bowl and stick it in the fridge. Don’t have maple syrup or walnuts for the recipe here? Feel free to swap those out with honey or agave for maple syrup and peanuts or cashews for walnuts.

Apple Chips

These are such an easy snack and so versatile! Not to mention they can be made right in the microwave. Just pop those apple slices in for roughly five minutes and bah-bam. Apple chips. You can dip these in the recipe below or just snack on them. The recipe specifics for these delish chips can be found here.

Pumpkin Yogurt Dip

Don’t feel obliged to bake all of your picked apples! Make sure to leave some for this dip. This fall combo of apple and pumpkin is divine, and not to mention the ingredient list found here consists of just pumpkin puree, yogurt and spices. (Feel free to substitute pumpkin pie mix for the individually listed spices though.) Mix those 3 ingredients in a bowl, dip the apple slices in and you’ve got yourself a tasty snack. Tired of the pumpkin craze? Mix in your favorite nut butter and cinnamon instead of pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice.

Baked Apple

This is apple snacking perfection. The ooey-gooeyness of apple pie combined with simple ingredients makes this recipe a must. Find this five-ingredient recipe here to keep it healthy, but if you’re in the mood for a sugary treat, mix in some brown sugar or add a scoop of ice cream on top.

Apple Nachos

Yup, you read that right. These are nachos, but in apple form. The nachos pictured here have peanut butter drizzled on top, but add a fall twist by drizzling caramel instead! Simply melt caramel cubes in the micro and let it drip off the spoon.
