10 Solo Dates To Take Yourself On

Date night is not just for couples! 🗣

1. Coffee Shop

At this point I just find any excuse to go to a new coffee shop, but it really can be a great solo date! There’s only one rule: don’t bring work. We’re striving for work-life balance, remember? When I go to coffee shops solo, I love to bring a journal or a book. If you’re from Pittsburgh, you can go to one of my recent articles to find some of the best coffee shops around here.

2. Movie Night

Going to an actual movie theater is such a fun experience, even if the movie sucks. Since theaters are finally opening back up after COVID, I would highly recommend going for a solo date. Now you can see what YOU actually want to see, rather than indecisively going back and forth with your significant other.

3. Table for one

If you’re anything like me, the idea of eating out in a restaurant by yourself is super intimidating (hello, anxiety!). Once you do it a few times, it gets a lot easier. I promise nobody is looking at you. To make me feel more comfortable, I usually bring headphones or a book.

4. Night in

If you’re not quite ready for a solo restaurant outing, that’s totally fine. A night in with your favorite takeout is just as good! I love to take a warm bath, watch my comfort movies and enjoy my favorite food. That still counts as a date, right?

5. Massage

I really wish I was boujee enough to do this one more often.

6. Thrifting

Who doesn’t love a crusty sweater that was probably owned by someone’s grandma?! I personally love thrifting solo because I get a little too competitive when someone finds a piece that I wanted. 🤪

7. picnic

Its currently snowing here in Pittsburgh as I write this, but if you live elsewhere then I would take full advantage of the spring weather! Getting some much-needed sunshine while eating yummy food sounds like the perfect date to me.

8. botanical garden

For us Pitt students, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is right around the corner. Their spring flower display is coming soon, and I will be first in line.

9. Art Museum

Art museums are some of the most relaxing places ever. Plus, no one will look at you weirdly if you’re wandering around by yourself! The Carnegie Museum of Art is right in our backyard as Pitt students (and its free!).

10. Nails

I’m not gonna lie, like massages I don’t do this very often. But if you can, go crazy!

Julia is a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh studying Media and Professional Communications with a minor in Gender, Sexuality, & Women's Studies. She loves to go thrifting, grab a coffee with friends, and go on walks with her dog!
