Remember when you used to watch those The Hollywood Fix Youtube videos of your favorite celebrity or influencer walking around Los Angeles? Or when TMZ would stay up till 3 a.m. getting a peek of celebrities leaving their house? Whenever a celebrity posts they were sad about something, like failing a test, you would expect people to express sympathy, right? Well, not anymore, especially the backlash that has occurred since what Kim Kardashian has posted on her Instagram.
We all know the Kardashian sisters. Their controversies, the memes they’ve created, and their reality tv show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. While their reality show is one of the most popular ones, recently people have been expressing their uninterest in their lives. One of the sisters, Kim Kardashian, recently posted a video on Instagram of her crying about failing the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE), and then that led into an edited video of her studying for the exam before results were sent. If you don’t know what the UBE is, it is an exam (obviously) for law students who want to practice law in a specific state or become a licensed attorney.
In April of 2019, Kardashian announced in an interview that she was going to be pursuing law through a law office study program in California. She was influenced by her work on criminal justice so she just decided she is going to become an attorney. Since then, after she posted about her failing the UBE, people have been expressing their disinterest since she has the money for the amount of resources she can get. I remember scrolling through TikTok and I came across one video, and the first thing that was said was “I cannot believe there are average Americans who feel bad for Kim Kardashian for not passing the bar.” That struck me the most, because in society today, there’s been a major decline in celebrity relevancy. Like, we as a society have stopped caring for celebrities’ smallest problems when there are major ones ahead of us. While watching the TikTok video, I was also scrolling through the comments. Mostly all of them agreed with the video, or sometimes people expressed what they’ve had to endure to get to where they are when studying law.
I honestly would have to say that I do think it’s a little crazy that people care a bit too much about Kardashian failing the exam. I do think Kardashian is her own person and can post what she wants, and is allowed to express her feelings. But, since she has the amount of resources she can get, she can always take it again. She can always try again in the next year or two, but that’s not everyone. Not everyone can get the amount of resources she can get and can just take it again next year. Well, guess we’ll just have to wait till the next Instagram post and see if Kardashian passes next year.
