Joanne: Lady Gaga’s Soulful New Album

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pace chapter.

It’s here, it’s here, it’s here! Lady Gaga just gave us that thing that we love. Her fifth studio album, Joanne, has been released! The album was titled after Gaga’s late aunt, Joanne Germanotta. Joanne passed away at the young age of nineteen, leaving Gaga to believe she and her artistry have been reincarnated through her. The album is unlike the techno Gaga we came to know through her “Just Dance” days and reveals a more soulful side of Gaga (even having a sort of country twang).

On the eve of the album’s release, Gaga performed at a small music venue and coffeehouse located on Bleecker street, known as the Bitter End. While she performed inside, she also performed some songs on the venue’s balcony for the hundreds of fans that crowded the street below. Funny enough, Gaga performed at the Bitter End as a teenager and aspiring musician back in the day. Check out her younger self in the picture below in addition to some of the pictures from her recent performance!   On the day of the album’s release, Gaga celebrated at her parent’s Upper West Side Italian restaurant, Joanne Trattoria. The restaurant serves Italian dishes special to the Germanotta family, in remembrance of Joanne Germanotta. There, Gaga stood behind the bar signing physical copies of the album, while fans waited in a line that wrapped halfway around the block to meet her.
