I’ve been on a Slayyyter run since hearing her hit song “CRANK” at Webster Hall during Pace University’s Unleashed event before she even dropped the song. Then I went back into her discography because I remembered thinking, “I’ve heard her name before; I definitely have.” As I kept scrolling, it hit me: she’s the same artist who created the popular TikTok song “Mine.” That’s when I started listening to all of her music and thought it would be so nice to see her live one day; she would be a great artist to bash my head to. Then, when she dropped her hit album, WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA, she also announced she would be going on a tour for that album. I just knew that if I had any time to bash my head to “CRANK,” now would be the best time.
Thankfully, she had two venues in New York City: one at Terminal 5 (which I thankfully did not go to) and one at Brooklyn Paramount. I immediately hopped onto Ticketmaster and purchased two tickets: one for myself and one for my best friend, Soren. Together, we were going to have the time of our lives. We left our apartment around 6:30 p.m., thinking we’d be really early since the show doesn’t begin until 7 p.m. That was the thought until we showed up at Brooklyn Paramount and saw that the line was almost a block and a half long. Thankfully, the line was moving quickly since the doors were open, but still, having to walk almost a block was insane to me. At the same time, it made me realize how much Slayyyter’s popularity has skyrocketed.
Once Soren and I were inside, we tried to find the merch stand, thinking the line wouldn’t be too long. However, we were more than wrong because the line was twice as long as the entrance line was. We decided that once she finished her final song, we’d book it to the very front of the merch stand. We went to the balcony section and were able to stand in such an amazing section. We could clearly see the stage, and we could dance our hearts out. We actually went up to the section halfway into the opening act, Pearly Drops — they were outstanding. Some of their music matched Slayyyter’s vibe, which had me looking into their discography. Around 8:30 p.m., Pearly Drops ended their act, and everyone was waiting for Slayyyter. Soren and I made friends with some of the other people in our section and started discussing our favorite Slayyyter songs and which ones we wanted to hear most. Around 9 p.m., the pregame music playlist slowly stopped playing, and the lights went completely dark.
Slayyyter as a performer was everything. Obviously, from my experience seeing her at Webster Hall, I knew she could perform. However, seeing her perform for a bigger crowd was everything. While her set production consisted only of a small, trailer-like house, similar to the album cover, she made it look good. She also had not one, not two, but three outfit changes throughout the night, and they all looked so incredible. My most memorable moment was when “CRANK” began to play and everyone, whether on the balcony or in the pit, started screaming and making room to jump around. Then, when the beat dropped, everyone and everything became a blur. I looked around my space, and everyone began jumping or bobbing their heads to the sound. It felt like the crowd knew, in that moment, that everyone wanted to go insane.
Overall, I had the craziest and best time of my life at the tour. If Slayyyter ever did a surprise show or any other performance in New York City, I will make sure that I will be in attendance because I would love to go crazy to “CRANK” again.
