Thank you, next: A Poem

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxford Emory chapter.

I said thank you

every time

you waited sleepless nights

you ran after me

following each fight safety words “Mermaids can’t walk”

I looked right back my head

brimming pictures of chocolate covered lips

you passed me your handkerchief

told me to use it

now I realize you are gone sometimes

I look up at the starry night

I sing about you and I

hair swept by the breeze

lovers share ice cream sitting on the bench

I stood alone

tears streaming

you never cared

I laugh at how one memory with time bland

was null and void

was it all a lie?

my heart, was it yours to keep?

but I never said fine

I loved you but it wasn’t enough

vanishing constellation

let’s say goodbye

forever lost, our chapter over

thank you, next
