Planning a date with your favorite person is not always an easy thing to do, especially if it’s for a romantic occasion like Valentine’s Day. You want to ensure the activities you do are something that both you and your Valentine will enjoy! One way to make sure Valentine’s Day is a day you’ll never forget is by making plans that incorporate your Valentine’s and your love languages. So, if you’re stuck with what to do this Valentine’s Day, or you need date ideas, continue reading the best Valentine’s Day plans for each love language!

Quality time

This Valentine’s Day, craft an elaborate trio of activities for you and your significant other (SO)! For your first activity, begin your evening creating pottery—if you live in Columbus, the Clay Cafe in Grandview is a great place to visit. This option is ideal as it lets you spend quality time with your SO and take home a beautifully crafted piece. Next, select a dinner venue for you and your SO to enjoy. Choosing the right spot may seem daunting, especially if you live near Columbus and its thriving food scene. If you do live near Columbus, we recommend German Village’s Cento for an intimate Italian dining experience. Finally, no date night can happen without a sweet treat to conclude the evening! Jeni’s Ice Cream is perfect for those with a sweet tooth and a penchant for quirky delights. Plus, there are multiple locations throughout Columbus, making a stop and Jeni’s super convenient!

WORDS OF AFFIRMATION

Although a gift or a fun date is appreciated by someone whose love language is words of affirmation, the best way to ensure they understand your love this Valentine’s Day is to tell them! As simple as it sounds, your words will mean more to them than any box of chocolates. In addition to the gift or date, concentrate on expressing your feelings about them in a card. One idea that is sure to evoke emotion is leaving notes for them to discover throughout the day. If you live together, hide notes around your place for constant reminders of your love. If you don’t live together, take them on a scavenger hunt to places that hold significance for both of you. Remember: The cheesier, the better!

ACTS OF SERVICE

When deciding how to treat your partner this Valentine’s Day, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the myriad gift ideas bombarding you. If your partner’s love language is acts of service, the most meaningful gift you can offer is your assistance. While it’s important to present your partner with a gift that reflects their value to you, it doesn’t always have to come with a hefty price tag. Simply assisting with their groceries, handling their laundry or tidying up their space can mean a lot to them. You understand your partner better than most, so be inventive! Consider what you’ve noticed in their day-to-day life, and remember that you possess insights into what matters to them most.

Receiving/giving gifts

If gift-giving is your love language, you have a wide array of options to choose from. Select (or create) something that falls within your price range; the best approach is to be creative and surprise your SO! Here are some ideas of items you can purchase or gain inspiration from:

  • Slippers (preferably the fluffy kind). They are quite easy to find and they come in all price ranges!
  • If your SO has a sweet tooth, consider getting them Valentine’s cupcakes. My personal favorite is Nothing Bundt Cakes cupcakes with heart toppers (truly amazing)!
  • If you have a more traditional approach to gift-giving, we recommend jewelry with a distinctive touch. Since it’s highly customizable, consider purchasing a necklace, bracelet or ring that holds special significance for both of you. It can symbolize a specific moment or the two of you as a couple.
  • For the SO that loves self-care, consider a silk pillowcase. These items can have a huge impact on your hair and skin. We recommend giving it a try, and what better way than by gifting it to your SO?
  • On a similar note, you can never go wrong with a nice set of pajamas. We particularly enjoy those that include both shorts and long pants in one set, making them more versatile throughout the seasons. You might even consider trying out some silk pajamas as well!

physical touch

If your love language is physical touch, we recommend a couple’s yoga class. If you live in Columbus, Raw Yoga 614 has a special Valentine’s Day class for those interested in taking their relationship to the next level! Additionally, there are a variety of free classes on YouTube for couples to partake in. If yoga is not your thing, you can also take turns giving each other massages.
