Mock Necks: The Newest Fall Fashion Trend at OSU

Just like how the infamous chunky coral jewelry and turquoise chevron pattern captured the eyes of many women in the 2000s, today the use of social media keeps fashion trends ever-changing and evolving. While most argue that their past fashion choices are defensible with the claim “you just had to be there,” it is an undeniable truth that, even at our young age, we have had statement pieces that can now be found collecting dust in our local thrift stores. Although history has proven time and time again that all clothes will inevitably go out of style, the rise of apps like TikTok have continued to coin new trends in each season that captivates the attention (and the wallets) of high school and college girls across the nation. This fall, especially on Ohio State’s campus, mock neck sweatshirts – commonly identified by their stand-up collars – have taken that title, and may become a reoccurring sight for falls to come.

Parke

New Jersey native Chelsea Parke created her online clothing brand Parke in 2022, but it has resurfaced as the face of the mock neck pandemic in 2026. According to the Parke website, Chelsea’s “obsession with the perfect pair of jeans” inspired her to create a brand where women could find “beautiful, well-made essentials” everyone needs in their dream closet – initially excluding the brand’s now-staple item. Parke launched its first-ever mock neck in July 2023, and with successful marketing to younger audiences through viral social media content, the brand has become a regular sight in posts, stories, and across Ohio State’s campus just three years later.

Today, plastered with bold embroidered lettering across the top, Parke mock necks are highly coveted and hard to miss. With special collection drops such as polka-dot, birthday, bridal, and coastal limited-edition pieces selling out within just a matter of minutes, the brand seems to be becoming increasingly popular, with collabs with Target and Dunkin also driving more customers.

While many shoppers across the nation may be saving their money and getting online on launch day, in an attempt to purchase a Parke mock neck, students at The Ohio State University have found something similar that hits quite a bit closer to home. Ohio State alumnae Molly Mullahy launched her own fashion line, Indianola Collective, inspired by the iconic street where all Ohio State fraternity and sorority houses can be found. In hopes of “combining her eye for design and Buckeye pride,” mock neck designs centered around Ohio – in Buckeye colors, of course – have arguably become an Ohio State must-have for this fall.

Designs varying in color, size, font, and style have all sold out numerous times due to the high demand from Buckeyes and Ohioans alike. As Indianola Collective becomes bigger and bigger (with 11,000 followers on Instagram), the launches of restocked mock necks and the creation of new mock necks for cities in Ohio have been highly anticipated.

For those of you looking for easier and cheaper access to the comfortable fall staple, you’re in luck. Today, mock neck-style sweatshirts are now available, basic or designed, at many common clothing chains, such as Target, Gap Factory, and Victoria’s Secret.

As you walk around campus this fall and winter, be on the lookout for those seeking warmth (and cuteness) with their Parke and Indianola Collective mock necks, and don’t be afraid to join in on the fun and match with your fellow Buckeyes.
