Talk with friends and family

Although we can’t see all of our loved ones in person, that doesn’t mean we have to spend any less time with them! Make sure you call or facetime your friends and family every week. The somewhat face-to-face time with the people you normally spend time with is a definite way to get through the never-ending hours inside. Also, checking up on friends and family is a necessary thing to do during such uncertain times. Letting them know you’re there for them and allowing them to do the same for you will make everyone feel loved and safe.

Write

I know by the end of the day we are all over staring at our laptop screens, but try spending at least ten minutes writing. If not on your computer, then in a journal. Using ten minutes at the end of each day to process what you felt throughout the day, or fall into an escape of creativity by writing poems or short passages is an excellent way to decompress. Allowing our brain to process the stress and craziness of a pandemic is important for our mental health.

Listen to music

Listening to music is a sure-fire way to get work done and pass time, while also keeping your sanity. Putting on calming music on while you dive into the endless piles of online work we’re all drowning in makes it a little less painful. Throwing on some upbeat jams gives you a perfect excuse for a dance break and instantly brings your mood up! Either way, music is a go-to for spending countless days inside.

Do self-care

Continuing self-care routines like normal is crucial to getting out of your quarantine rut. You don’t have to get ready as if you’re going to class or it’s a night out, but keeping your body and hair clean, taking care of your nails, and doing soothing facials and skincare is a great way to relax your mind while also treating your body!

Get some fresh air

We should only be leaving the house for essential items, but that shouldn’t stop you from going for a walk around the block or a hike in the woods. Taking the time to get away from technology and breathe in the fresh air is extremely important. It’s is a good way to get some exercise!

Do an at-home workout

We’re used to running around all hours of the day either working or doing school. Now, we are practically glued to our desk, bed, or couch. So, we all need to find ways to stay healthy and active! Doing a quick at-home workout once or twice a day is a great way to stay fit and get your body moving. Working out is also a great source of endorphins (the ‘happy’ chemical in our brain), so you’ll also feel much more positive and relaxed after.

Relax!

Honestly, you don’t have to learn a new hobby or run a mile every day. Binge-watch the TV show you’ve been waiting to finish. Sleep in later than normal and eat some junk food. Our mental health is just as important as our physical health! So, focus on trying to stay calm and happy.

Hopefully these ideas make your quarantine a bit more bearable. Just remember to focus on staying safe and healthy!
