HCO Team New Years Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Whenever January 1st rolls around our society finds itself in a position to revamp, reshape, or renovate something about our lives. The rec center becomes more crowded, some friends turn down invites to parties, and self-help books fly off the shelf. Yet for many of us, these  resolutions fall by the wayside after mid-February for these goals are either too lofty, too inconvenient or too lifestyle-cramping to continue. The key to setting a good New Year’s Resolution is making it challenging, but attainable. This means not trying to change your entire lifestyle in one day, like saying, “I’m now offically a vegan!” Try something like cutting out red meat for a few weeks, then taper off to only eating fish, and so on. Keep yourself on track by setting goals that have weekly check-points and that have a great significance to you–the more important it is to you personally, the more likely you are to stick with it. Here at Her Campus Oregon, our girls are no different than many others in that we have set some goals for ourselves in 2013. Below you will find the resolutions of some of our staff for 2013.

Sydney Zuelke–HCO Writer

Sydney, who is a freshman here at the U of O, plans to:

  • Find more happiness in non-material things.
  • Try out an organic diet.
  • And keep in touch more with family in “the corn fields” of Nebraska.

Heaven Lampshire–HCO Writer & P.R. Team–Publicity and Events Director

Heaven, a junior in the SOJC here at the U of O, hopes to have some positive changes in 2013 inlcuding:

  • Running the Eugene half marathon.
  • Cutting out soda.
  • and, “like every other college student…,” procrastinating less.

Kelsey Bradshaw–HCO Writer

This year Kelsey is wants to kick start 2013 by:

  • Flossing more and drinking 3 bottles of water a day.
  • Having her homework done on time.
  • Finding an internship.

Jessica Crossley–HCO Writer & Advice Columnist

Jessica, who will be graduating this June with a degree in Psychology, hopes to:

  • Get A’s in 6 out of the 8 classes she has before she applies to grad school.
  • Work on the concept and outline for a book she plans to write.
  • Cook more at home, instead of going out, in an effort to eat healthier.

Hayley Stewart–HCO Writer & P.R. Team

Hayley has goals for positively and energy for 2013, and she plans to:

  • Keep things simple by forgetting the bad and focusing on the good.
  • Embrace the now, and not always be caught up thinking about the future.
  • Race in the Eugene half marathon in April with Heaven in an effort to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle.

Marissa Tomko–HCO Writer

This year Marissa plans to add a few things to her life, as well as try and cut some out by:

  • Making guacamole once a week.
  • Writing more.
  • Spending less time on her iPhone, stating, “I haven’t put it down since I got it a year ago!”

Nicole Ibarra–HCO Writer & P.R. Team–Director of Social Media

Nicole, a junior P.R. major, is a self-proclaimed “big dreamer” with goals in 2013 that include:

  • Trying to be active every day.
  • Cutting soda out of her diet.
  • Shooting for a 4.0 this winter term.

Rebecca Gibson-HCO Writer, Photographer, & Editor-in-Chief

With only two terms left of college, I plan to try and make the most of these next 20-something weeks. I want to:

  • Say “yes” more–if there was ever a time to be open to experiences, it’s now.
  • Go on more weekend trips with friends. After June, we could all be spread out across the country.
  • Try to combat my serious baking addiction, or at least use “skinny” recipes more or give away my goodies, instead of eating them all.
