Meet Emilie Kemp!

Hometown: Mountain View, CA

Major: Journalism/PR

Year in school: Junior

Celebrity Crush: Nat Wolff

HC: What are you involved with on campus?

EK: I am the Risk Management Chair for my sorority, Gamma Phi Beta, and I am also a member of the club running team.

HC: What is the best part about being in a sorority?

EK: I have become such good friends with so many women. Our bond truly goes deeper than just friendship because we really are like sisters.

HC: What is the hardest part about being in a sorority?

EK: There are definitely a lot of commitments. We have meetings every week and you get out what you put in. We have our sorority life, but they also want us to be involved with community service and focus on our academics.

HC: How old were you when you started running?

EK: I joined my first club team the summer after 3rd grade and have been running ever since.

HC: What is your favorite event to run?

EK: I like the 800m because I feel a lot less dread knowing I only have to run two laps!

HC: What is your favorite spot in Eugene?

EK: I really like the EMU. I can go there to study, eat, or relax, and I don’t necessarily feel like I’m on campus.

HC: Where do you want to work after you graduate?

EK: I want to work at a PR firm and eventually work in-house somewhere because I feel like you get more in-depth. I think that would be a really good experience right out of college.

HC: What was the hardest part about moving to Oregon from California?

EK: There is no In-n-out. I miss it!

HC: What advice would you give to freshmen?

EK: Get organized early on. My biggest issue with the transition was being used to teachers reminding me about assignments. In college, you really have to look at the syllabus to stay on track.

HC: Is there any specific accessory you always wear?

EK: I always wear the same necklace and ring. The necklace is from my grandpa and it used to be a pair of earrings, which he took apart and gave to me and my cousin. I also have an Irish Claddagh ring from my grandma. The hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, and the crown represents loyalty. Your relationship status is represented by the way you wear it.

HC: What song do you currently have on repeat?

EK: Cash Machine by Big Baby D.R.A.M.
