“We Are Still Running”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

Running is a hobby that many individuals acquire. To Sevyn Morrow and Garrett Dugan, running is a passion.

In May 2016, the two both graduated from Bartlesville High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where they were both “former members of a running program that trained teenagers to run half marathons”. Sevyn says that she has been running since 7th grade, but did not take running seriously until 9th grade. Garrett says that he has been running since 8th grade. Sevyn has ran over 3,000 miles in total and has participated in over 50 5k’s, 3 8k’s, 7 10k’s, 3 15k’s, 7 half marathons, and 3 full marathons. Garrett has also ran over 3,000 miles in total and has participated in at least 40 5k’s, numerous 8k’s, 10k’s, and 15k’s, 9 half marathons, and 1 full marathon. Now Oklahoma State Freshman, the two have found themselves to be the founders of a spirit led, Christian running and bible study group here on campus called Still Running. The two state that within the group, the members “come together to fellowship in the sport running and in studying the word of life”.

When asked, the two state that what strived them to start the group, Still Running, was simply their love for running. After their time involved in the running program in Bartlesville ended due to the Fall 2016 semester at OSU, they said that they “didn’t just want [their] love for running to end because [they] graduated high school”. So, they decided to make the group and name it Still Running because they are, in fact, still running. The name is also a play on words due to the fact that they live in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They explain that their goals within the group for the future are “to train and run a half marathon” as early as next semester and “to grow in size”.

Still Running currently has around ten members and they plan on growth within the next years to come.

If you are interested in joining Still Running, the group can be found at the OSU XC Course where they usually run Tuesdays and Thursdays. Bible studies frequently occur Tuesday nights at 6:30 pm and they meet in front of Village F.

Still Running can be found on Instagram @_stillrunning or on Facebook by searching ‘STILLrunning’ for any further questions.

“Be open-minded and never put limits on yourself. We can become our biggest obstacle when we assume we cannot do something. I never would have thought I’d be a runner out of all things, but I am, and I’m glad I’ve ended up here. So, just take life where it leads you and be fierce, confident, and kind”. –Sevyn Morrow
