I hope october has been good to you…

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

I hope as we are finishing out the beloved month of Halloween, of fall, of nuances, and new ages, that October has poured out a kind heart in your presence, and that it continues to be good to you.

I hope that with the coming of fall, you too have shed a coat of arms that concealed who you truly were hiding inside your summer self. I hope you have not only bundled yourself up from the ever-present, ever-looming cold but that you have dawned a coat that feels exactly and perfectly like you.

I hope October has brought you childlike wonder in everything you see. That it’s brought you Scooby Doo on tv screens as you grocery shop, and suddenly you are transported back into the Sunday mornings on the couch where it played in the background as you spoon-fed yourself cereal. And now, as you shop, I hope it has shown you that the same you on the couch exists in the adult world too, and maybe you add a box of cereal to your cart.

I hope October has brought you endless laughter and spontaneity. I hope it has brought you songs that you never knew existed until your next-door neighbor blared them on the speakers while you got ready for the night. I hope it means shamelessly dancing when you’re out, and maybe even skipping a little on the walk home.

I hope it’s remembering the dreams of the young you. Remembering that maybe when you dreamed of being an author, it wasn’t just a figment of your imagination. That maybe you actually can do it.

I hope it’s surprise visits from a long-distance love, and a weekend filled with the time together you had been missing. I hope it’s watching your friends genuinely smile around you, knowing that they are experiencing their own gifts from October too.

I hope it’s walking alone to restart your brain because maybe after all these years, alone time can be a good thing.

It’s a reset in your mindset, as you inch further into the semester, remembering how much you have done, and knowing how hard you have worked to get to this month.

A sushi dinner, that you had heard so many good reviews of, and turns out the leftovers are just as good too. It’s rewatching your favorite tv show, as your roommate falls in love with all of the characters you hold so close to you.

It’s hugs from strangers and calls from friends you haven’t seen in ages.

Of course, it’s the leaves crunching perfectly under your favorite pair of sneakers. It’s cozy sweaters you can’t help but buy more of. It’s apple cider and pumpkin everywhere.

But I hope you have seen October’s goodness in more ways than fall cliché’s and stereotypes. I hope October has been and is good to you.
