The season of snowflakes and sniffles is upon. This year’s  flu is one of the worst strains in recent memory and with the illness taking its toll on people across the country, it’s proving harder and harder to escape hoards of sick citizens.  Taking steps to prevent the flu will save you from having to take to the bed for a week. Check out the list of tips below to keep you happy and healthy.

1. Get your flu shot.

Yes, it’s a hassle and yes, it stings a little bit, but it’s better to get the shot than be miserable for days on end. Use this map to find a place close to you to get the vaccine.

2.  Sleep.

When people don’t sleep, they put their immune systems at risk. Get to bed on time to avoid the sniffles! And really, who needs an excuse to sleep more?

3. Wash your hands-frequently.

This one goes without saying. We touch a myriad of disgusting things—from doorknobs to the keyboards in Alden. It wouldn’t hurt to carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your purse or backpack either.

4. Don’t touch your face.

Seriously, keep your hands away from your face. It’s tempting to bite your nails or rub your eyes from time to time, but it also could make you sick.

5. Disinfect your dorm or apartment.

Use Lysol or disinfectant wipes to keep surfaces clean and kill germs.
