Last Saturday, Old Dominion faced Florida International University in a rainy, stormy game and I was there for it! Although I didn’t stay long, I had my favorite tailgating necessities with me. Tailgating is an activity before sporting events that consists of good food, good drinks, and a good time with friends and family who share the same love of the sport as you. At Old Dominion, tailgating starts at least three hours before kickoff so it is quite a long day. Here are some of my favorites to have that I use almost every weekend!

Comfortable Shoes
When tailgating, you’ll be on your feet for a long time. Usually students don’t sit during the games, and even before kickoff, your feet will be hurting. I personally like to wear my old Converse or cowboy boots depending on the weather. You also want to make sure you won’t mind getting your shoes a little dirty. Weather can change in a split second, especially here in Virginia, so make sure you won’t be heartbroken if your shoes get a little muddy.

A Football Jersey
A football jersey can be a key wardrobe piece for football games. Many schools suggest wearing school colors to show off school spirit, and a jersey can act as a cute shirt or dress that shows off fun school pride. Most schools have jerseys for all different sports in their book stores or online!

Keys and Money
Keys and money are extremely beneficial to any college girl. You’ll have to get home somehow and you’ll need a good amount of money for all the yummy stadium food. Old Dominion offers barbecue nachos and I almost fainted when I shared them with my roommates. Best $8 ever spent.

A Good Group of Friends by Your Side
Football games are extremely fun, but they’re even more fun when you have a good group of girls by your side. You can take cute game day pictures together, fun Polaroids, and spend the day hanging out without a care in the world!
