7 Fall Desserts You Can Make in a Dorm

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

For those of us who are still relying on a supply of old Halloween candy stashed underneath our dorm beds, have no fear! Here are 7 awesome, stress-free and very manageable desserts everyone make during the weekend. Even if you consider yourselves one of the worst bakers out there, trust us, these desserts are very hard to mess up!

1. Peanut Butter Dessert Lasagna

Calling this dessert with the same name as your mom’s famous savory dish and then tacking on “peanut butter” in the beginning doesn’t really sound all that appetizing. And yet, something that sounds kind of wrong is so right. (Disclaimer notice: lasagna isn’t actually involved in the making of this delicious, decadent dessert. It’s just fun to call it that to gross people out.) In all seriousness, this takes little to no preparation, and who doesn’t like the combination of creamy peanut butter and semisweet chocolate chips?

2. Caramel Apples

You can’t pass the fall season without ever having tried caramel apples. Sure, you can totally buy these at your local bakery shop, but where is the fun in that? Plus, you get to make caramel. Making these are a bit messy, since you are dealing with sticky sugar and corn syrup, but it’s so worth it.

3. Apple Pie Parfaits

When you can’t have your mom’s homemade apple pie, served fresh out of the oven, then the next best thing is to make these awesome apple pie parfaits. These are so easy to make since it’s a no-bake recipe. Apple butter, greek yogur and vanilla extract is the heavenly combination you never knew you needed until this very moment.

4. Single Serving Apple Crisps

If you feel extra motivated to use the oven and more of your baking skills, here is a recipe that makes these warm, delectable apple crisps within five minutes. And when I say five minutes, it really takes five minutes—two to prepare and put all the ingredients together, and three to warm up in the oven. It’s just that simple, and the end result is a healthy, guilt-free snack that will most likely be finished under five minutes as well.

5. Mini Sweet Potato Souffles

This recipe is slightly more intricate, but so worth the extra 15 minutes that you would spend in the kitchen. If you have an obsession with food that involves sweet potatoes, then this recipe is your natural calling.

6. Pumpkin Pie Dip

For those of you who are craving some good old fashioned pumpkin pie, but hate the sickeningly sweet taste of pumpkin spice lattes, this no bake pumpkin pie dip is the perfect balance. Once you make the dip, you can serve (or just selfishly eat them all yourself) with ginger snaps. It’s the perfect match made in heaven: the natural bitterness of the ginger snaps will offset the balance of the dip’s sweetness. Try it out for dessert this weekend!

7. Apple Oatmeal Cookies

Oatmeal raisin cookies seem to be an acquired taste, and mostly, it’s because of those raisins. So substitute those out with some tart apple chunks, and you’ve got yourself a crowd pleaser. Sadly, this takes a little bit more time than the other recipes do, but a considerable less amount of time compared to other desserts.
