Uni Rivalry: What UoN Has That Trent Doesn’t

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

You may have read our recent article on what Nottingham Trent uni has that UoN doesn’t. Well the tables have turned and now it’s time to look at the cool thing UoN has to offer that NTU doesn’t.

Things go swimmingly well for UoN students

Included in the membership fee at UoN is a 25m swimming pool on campus open from early morning to late evening. The pool is also used by many uni societies with a whole range of activities available to try out – UoN swimming club, triathlon club, canoe polo club, lifesaving club, kayak club, sub aqua club as well as the get wet swimming lessons and aqua aerobics.

Take a dip, right on campus!

Park life

The main campus is aptly named University Park and the grounds really do seem like a park, with many local residents choosing the university as a place to walk their dog. There are lakes on many campuses, complete with boats for hire in the summer and wildlife that stay all year round.

Just like being at a park

A multitude of campuses worldwide

UoN has four campuses in the UK, and two others in China and Malaysia. The connections between them are great and there are many opportunities to study abroad, even if your degree is not languages based. Given that the overseas campuses are English speaking, applying for a semester abroad need not scare you if you don’t know Mandarin or Malay.

UoN Ningbo’s version of Trent building – it’s like you’ve never left Notts!

The chiming Trent tower

UoN’s Trent building (named after the river, not Trent uni!) has a fully functioning chiming clock tower which rings every quarter of an hour. It can be heard as far away as the lake and from neighbouring buildings Portland and LASS. It may be frustrating to hear every 15 minutes passing when you’re in an exam but usually, it’s charming!

Ding dong, can you hear the bells?

Underground tunnels and secret gardens

There are some secrets at UoN, including a set of underground tunnels between buildings (do you know where we mean?) Only one is in use as the others are caved in or have buildings on top of them. Adventurers can go in search of the hidden gardens which are beautifully sculpted with water features. stepping stones and seasonal flowers.

Do you know where this is?

That concludes the second part of our uni rivalry section. It’s clear to see that UoN students have a lot of beautiful facilities and cool things on their campus, just as NTU does. Which uni do you prefer?

Sam is a Third Year at the University of Nottingham, England and Campus Correspondent for HC Nottingham. She is studying English and would love a career in journalism or marketing (to name two very broad industries). But for now, her favourite pastimes include nightclubs, ebay, cooking, reading, hunting down new music, watching thought-provoking films, chatting, and attempting to find a sport/workout regime that she enjoys!
