Uni Rivalry: What Trent Has That UoN Doesn’t

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

We all know that in British towns and cities where there is more than one university, there are tensions between the students as to who is the smartest or who has the most fun. Nottingham is no different with the rivalry between Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and the University of Nottingham (UoN). Her Campus has a look at some of the unique things that NTU has to offer.

Trent Students Climbing High

Located in the students’ union building and included in the sports centre membership, Trent students can go for a climb on the colourful 30ft climbing wall. This is pretty cool and is one of the many new facilities that are included in the new SU building at NTU.

No Need to Leave Uni to Party

Besides the standard box office, SU shop, cafes and advice centre, NTU also has a nightclub in its students’ union. The most regular night is Climax on a Saturday, attracting thousands of students to its three floors and mixture of music. There is no need to leave campus to have a good night out and other nights are also held here during the week.

Central Location

Being a city campus, NTU has all the benefits of the city centre close by, from the 24 hour McDonalds to having Victoria Centre within walking distance and no need to take a bus. It’s close to all the clubs, restaurants, ice skating and bowling that the city centre offers.

Disney Society

UoN has over 240 societies, but none of them is dedicated entirely to watching Disney films like NTU’s Disney society! Their activities involve screenings of Disney films, other socials and “as much Disney fun as possible”.

Puppy Love

NTU is one of the UK universities that offers a puppy room during exam season. Students can make a £3 donation to Guide Dogs to have a 15 minute session with an adorable Labrador puppy. As part of the uni’s Give It a Go week, the puppies will next be in town on 5 January to relieve January blues and raise spirits after the Christmas break.

Despite all these things that NTU has, let us not forget that there are plenty of things which UoN has to offer that NTU doesn’t. There will be an upcoming article on exactly this topic so keep checking back to see the second part!

Leona is a final year languages student. This year she's back in Nottingham after spending her year abroad in the Canary Islands and China. She is sporty, curious and has a weakness for Kit Kat Chunkys.
Sam is a Third Year at the University of Nottingham, England and Campus Correspondent for HC Nottingham. She is studying English and would love a career in journalism or marketing (to name two very broad industries). But for now, her favourite pastimes include nightclubs, ebay, cooking, reading, hunting down new music, watching thought-provoking films, chatting, and attempting to find a sport/workout regime that she enjoys!
