Spring 2017 Trends Straight from the Catwalk

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

A new year means new trends and lots of shopping sprees to be had. Spring is a great time to refresh your wardrobe and there are plenty of exiting new trends this year.  You may even find a whole new style so you’ll never be stuck for something to wear.

This year, stripes of all colours and sizes are particularly on trend. Whether you want to dress head to toe in them or just add little element into your outfit, stripes are one way to put your best fashion foot forward.

Another way to kick-start spring is through the colour yellow. It seems to promise to make you feel that bit cheerier, especially during those dark mornings of 9am lectures. Just find the shade that best suits your skin tone and be your own personal ray of sunshine.

If you want to take on a more adventurous new trend, then the single shoulder cut out could be perfect for you. Baring just one shoulder adds an element of interest to your outfit, but just be aware of where the cut is placed for maximum impact.

Instead of the 70’s flared sleeves seen last year, now it’s all about the sleeve slits. A great slit length is around the elbow region, offering a perfect excuse to show off your bracelets and bangles.

After the popularity of the 70’s last year, now it’s time to move into the next decade with 80’s glam. Think eye-catching ruffles, puffed up sleeves, and wildly loud colours and patterns. It is the 80’s after all, so don’t be afraid: anything goes!

Clothes aren’t the only items getting updated this spring; bags are getting a whole new makeover. This spring it’s all about supersizing your bags, the bigger the better. So You’ll never be stuck for space again!

Moving on to accessories; this spring, the focus is on show-stopping earrings. Over-the-top, glamourous and decadent: it’s all about earrings that could be pieces of art.

A colour not only for girls but, yes, for the boys too, pretty in pink is a new trend this spring. All shades of pink from baby pink to neon are great, adding a softness to any outfit.

Bring out your inner flower child with florals this spring; a trend that always makes an appearance at the beginning of the year. Don’t hold back with floral clash, as graphic florals are the best way to wear the trend right now.
