The Nottingham Student Bucket List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Final year has come around faster than I could have ever imagined. I still remember the day I drove up to Nottingham with a car packed full of boxes, ready to start my Psychology degree like it was yesterday. The weeks are flying by already and I can see that before I know it, it is going to be dissertation deadline day, exams and then graduation – how scary. Although the year is going to be packed full of deadlines and writing, I think it’s important to have some fun and enjoy it. This is why I’ve put together a list of some of my favourite places I think you should all visit, whether you’re in your first or final year!

1. Nottingham Castle

Before you graduate, a major tourist spot to take a visit to is Nottingham Castle. It’s open 7 days a week from 10am-5pm. They often hold different events so check their website every so often to see what’s on. Their next event is on October 28th and it’s Halloween themed – a great alternative if you don’t enjoy clubbing. They also put on a wonderful firework display every November so wrap up warm and go and enjoy the show!

2. Wollaton Park

It’s a classic. If you haven’t been to Wollaton park yet, here’s your cue! The most beautiful deer park located close to University Park Campus. With autumn well underway, why not pay this pretty place a visit on a weekend with friends. P.S. don’t forget to snap a picture outside Batman’s house – are you really a Nottingham student if you haven’t?

3. Sherwood Forest

This one is on my bucket list. Even before I moved here, I always associated Nottingham with Robin Hood, yet I still need to go to Sherwood Forest. Make the most of what’s on your doorstep and get some time outside in the fresh air to relax, clear your head and have some fun – you deserve it!

4. The Dice Cup (aka The Board Game Café)

If you’re a board game fanatic, this one’s for you. Located in the heart of the quirky lace market, you’ll find this hidden gem. It’s a great place to meet new people with similar interests or take your friends for a dose of healthy competition.

5. TOAST

For the best breakfast or brunch time ever! TOAST is the cutest café located at the top of Derby road. If you live in Lenton, this is so quick to get to. My personal favourite is their scrambled eggs. Not to mention they sell the most incredible cakes and doughnuts.

6. The Boiler Maker

I could speak about this place forever. Whenever I have a friend or family member come to visit me at university, I always take them here and they all absolutely love it. I won’t say too much as I don’t want to ruin it, but it is a beautiful cocktail bar situated in Hockley, one of my favourite areas of the city. Definitely worth a visit one evening, if you can find it!
