Nottingham’s Media Festival is set to take place from the 8th to 10th in March 2018 at the Lace Market. It includes the Nottingham International Microfilm Festival, The Fresh Creative Awards, and the VR Expo, amongst other creative events. This event is also designed to present the amazing talents and skills of local individuals, students, and organisations that are working in the creative fields.

I’m sure a lot of you guys have heard about the project ‘Humans of New York’. A similar project has been going on in Nottingham called ‘Strangers of Nottingham’, and the Media Festival was able to get Crash Taylor, the creator of the project himself, to be a guest speaker at the event. If you are interested in photography, be sure to check out the website for more information.

Providing you with multiple platforms to discover and learn more about new opportunities, the festival gives you career advice by allowing you to get up close and personal with individuals who are already shaping these industries, so don’t miss out!

Here are two main programmes that will be showcased:

SLICE (Student Lives in Creative Enterprises)

One of the initiatives as part of the Festival is a programme called SLICE (Student Lives in Creative Enterprises). There are amazing people lined up, each of whom will host a small group of students in an informal setting and chat with them about working in different creative environments, making the sessions a lot more engaging and interesting than just a standard lecture: it’s a great opportunity to chat over a cuppa and a slice of cake! These sessions are designed to enable anyone to speak to someone who can help shape your future.

If you’re interested in Graphic Design, becoming an Art Director, Event Management, Photography, Social Media, and such areas, be sure to check out the guest speakers here SLICE Guest Speakers, as bookings open on the 1st of February and places are limited!

Lego Legends

To add some fun to the festival, they’re offering the public the chance to engage with an exciting Lego Legends competition. Even better, it’s completely free to join and you could even win a free trip to Legoland® Windsor.

Lego Legends is open for submissions from the 1st of February until the 28th of February for all individuals, teams, friends, schools, clubs and colleagues. If your LEGO® skills are superb, Nottingham’s Media Festival invites YOU to submit your LEGO® design which represents Nottingham (an iconic building or landmark, historical figure or famous scene) and the finalists will all be displayed at a variety of venues around the Lace Market for the duration of the Nottingham Media Festival. More information on submission can be found here: Lego Legends.

And be sure to tell your friends or anyone else you know who’s specifically interested in these types of programmes!
