An Interview with Idlside on their Acoustic Tour

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

I recently had the opportunity to have a quick chat with Thea from the Bath based band, Idlside. The full band consists of five members, but they are currently on an acoustic tour as a three.  Be sure to check their Facebook page for live dates.

1. How did you come up with the name Idlside? When naming the band, I wanted something that had three syllables and something that meant something but at the same time didn’t have an actual meaning. For example, I like the way Kodaline and Echo Smith sound, the three syllables really resonate. A friend of mine found a place called Idle rocks and I drew Idlside from that.

2. Who do you draw musical influence from? When I was younger, I was really into Avril Lavigne and Pink, they were great. As a band, we have a variety of influences.

3. What has been the peak moment for you as a band so far?

We supported Vant in Bath. They are doing really well now and it was amazing to support them. We really enjoyed the gig and it was a really good experience for us.

4. What do you hope to achieve as a band? There are a variety of venues we would like to play. For me (Thea) I would really like to play Reading Festival on the Sunday and have a headline slot on the main stage. Where I am from, Reading is the local festival and it would be incredible to do well enough to play on the main stage there.

5. Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?

Again, as a band we probably would have all different ideas. Personally, I’m really enjoying a Scottish band called Father Son and I would really like to do a duet with the lead singer.

I also had a listen to their EP Demos on SoundCloud and they are incredible. They’ve got that funky happy vibe that make you want to sing along. Thea has such a strong and unique vocal. This band definitely have huge potential and I believe they will go really far.
