Claire Jaeger ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

From Laguna to London, this recently turned 21-year-old has her bags packed and passport in hand, ready to jet set through her junior year.

Meet this week’s HCND Campus Celeb Claire Jaeger. A native of Laguna Beach, California, Claire resembles Notre Dame’s very own LC—minus all the fuss and drama, of course!—as she landed a summer internship with an LA magazine bureau. Known by her friends for her flawless taste, impeccable eye-for-design, and for being the sweetest girl there is, Claire is the perfect fit for her job in the Hills. And when Claire’s not hard at work, it’s all about her sisters, friends, splurges at Forever 21, and some time on the beach.

Claire is now about to trade in her OC summer for a semester across the Pond in the UK. With just two weeks before her departure, Claire shares her summer memories, travel excitements, and packing must-haves.

What’s a typical summer day for you? Tell us, is it really just like the show Laguna Beach? Just kidding.

A typical day for me would probably be going on this little hike by my house, getting breakfast at Anastasia or Zinc (two of my favorite cafes), and then going to the beach until the sun goes down!

What were some of your favorite memories this summer?

Some of my favorite memories are probably the Fourth of July, going to Malibu Pier, Disneyland, cheering on the Anaheim Angels, and having two of my best friends Lisa and Janie visit!!

The Fourth of July was fun because it is like one huge party on the beach. I got to see a lot of my old high school friends and the fireworks in my neighborhood are always incredible. My friend Paulina and I went shopping in LA for the day and then went to this restaurant that I had been wanting to go to for a while on the pier in Malibu.

I went to Disneyland with my little sister, which was fun because I haven’t been there in years. We only went on a few rides, but I felt like a kid again and the treats were amazing of course. But by far the highlight of my summer was when two of my very best friends, Lisa and Janie, visited for my birthday. I loved showing them around, taking them to my favorite spots in Laguna, introducing them to my friends, but mostly just hanging out and catching up since I won’t see them for almost six months!!

Can you tell us a little about your summer internship?

I’ve been interning at Modern Luxury, a luxury lifestyle publisher in LA. I’ve mostly been helping out with their California Brides magazine. I help research for the sales and marketing departments, update the social media accounts, manage RSVP lists, and assist at all company events. I hope to be a wedding planner one day, so the events are definitely my favorite part.

Rumor has it you just turned 21!!! How did you celebrate the big day?

Some friends and I went on a boat in the Harbor and celebrated with dinner and drinks, and then I visited my older sister in NYC. I got to see some ND friends and finally go out as a 21-year-old! My sister and I went to brunch and shopped around in Chelsea and SoHo. Since my sister just moved to the city, it was nice to just spend time with her and see what her new life is like.

So, you’re studying abroad in London this Fall. Are you excited?! What are you most looking forward to?

Yes, I am super excited!! Even though I’ve been to London before, I’m looking forward to experiencing it on my own, not on vacation with my parents, and really getting to know the city.

I want to explore the different neighborhoods and the specialty markets, especially the Piccadilly market. I love London’s unique history and traditions. Oh, and going to the London Ballet is definitely on my bucket list. I’m scared though that I’ll spend all my money at Topshop…

The flight to London is definitely a long one. What are the top-5 things in your carry-on?

Hmm, definitely my phone, and butterscotch candies, this hand sanitizer from Bath and Body Works that smells really good, a blanket, and pretty much any women’s magazine.

Thanks, Claire! We will miss you and your bright smile on campus this Fall. Good luck in London! xoxo
