The Best Free Workouts to Try During Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

I’m generally an active person and I enjoy working out, but motivation has been at an all-time low during this period of quarantine. My bed, Netflix and unfortunately, the kitchen, are constantly calling my name. Although some amount of binging and relaxing is appropriate and necessary for this stressful time, it’s also super important to balance that with some healthy habits, and that includes exercise.

If you’re someone like me that feels lost without the Duncan treadmills and your weekly class with Yoga Steve, check out these five FREE workout opportunities to get back to sweating and maybe even discover a new workout routine:

Rumble Boxing Workouts on Instagram

Rumble is one of the latest trends in the never-ending parade of new fitness studios, but I think they’re actually here to stay. Rumble provides boxing-inspired fitness classes that are typically 45 minutes long. Half of the class is spent exploring the skills and drills of boxing and the other half is spent working on resistance training. I love their classes because they’re a great balance of cardio and strength. It’s also just fun to punch the air! Check out @doyourumble for no-experience/no-equipment required, high intensity boxing classes that are live-streamed each day (and saved on IGTV if you want to tune in on your own time).

1 Week Free Trial at Hella Yoga

Hella Yoga is my new favorite workout. Based in Berkeley, they provide a bunch of different pilates and yoga classes each day via Zoom and the first week is free! I’d highly recommend their Virtual Hot Pilates class which has made it incredibly difficult for me to walk down the stairs for the past three days. To truly simulate the experience at the studio where they crank the heat up to 90, throw on a sweatshirt and light some candles to get your sweat on.

1 Month Free Trial at Glo

Glo is one of the most extensive online hubs for yoga. They offer 16 different styles of yoga, a variety of world-class instructors, and more than 4,000 classes on demand. You can truly find whatever you’re looking for, and they make it easy by allowing you to answer a few questions about what you’re seeking so that they can tailor suggestions just for you. I recommend finding a class series that suits your goals so that you can find some stability and routine.

305 Fitness Dance Workouts on YouTube

I do not consider myself a dancer in any form, shape, or fashion…but what better time to try it than in my room alone during quarantine? 305 Fitness provides totally free dance workout videos on YouTube with a variety of instructors, types of dance and levels of difficulty. I was shocked by how much fun I had trying one of these classes and it was also a great workout. If you want to really simulate the feeling of being in a class, try logging onto Zoom with your friends, have someone share their screen with the video and then do the class together!

Barry’s Bootcamp on Instagram

Barry’s Bootcamp is another fitness class craze that you may be skeptical of but it really does live up to the hype. Their classic workouts in the studio are 50% running and 50% strength and I have never sweat that much in my life. It’s hard to replicate the real deal, but Barry’s comes pretty close with their livestreams and IGTV workouts that they post each day. Take a look at their IG (@barrys) for more info and their schedule, and you might even be inspired to join the #socialfitnessing challenge.

These are just a few of the many, many online workouts that are available right now, so take the time to look around, try new things and figure out what works best for you! Now go get your sweat on!
